About this deal

I am particularly interested how xdi-rx compares in that respect (=sound quality) with Pioneer’s top mixer i.e. DJM900-nxs2 Can I use serato DVS with this? That would be great if I could – all my music is in mp3 but I plan on starting buying pure analog vinyl records too. Beyond FX controls you’ll also have access to Booth Monitor volume. Cue/Master and Level controls for your headphones. Plus, access to AUX controls directly on the mixer section. When the beat drops, not during your set, but on your Pioneer DJ gear, AlphaTheta Care is here for you.

None of this should detract from the fact that this is an update of a very popular unit. Like the XDJ-RX2, it is great to use, but now it feels snappier, and really benefits from that bigger screen. The extra FX are cool, the library functions are heaps better, and some of the new features are immediately useful (we liked the ability to “favourite” four playlists, particularly).Quantize button When turned on, cue points, loop-in points, loop-out points, and Hot Cue points are automatically set to the

Each of the additional pad modes is activated by pressing the chosen pad mode button twice. The Release FX performance pad mode It probably won’t be cloud compatible in the future – Rekordbox has got cloud music baked in nowadays, but there’s no Ethernet port on this, so it won’t come for this (unless they’ve hidden a WiFi chip in it, of course) The bottom line for me was that my mixes on the Traktor s4 were better, more creative and easier than this more expensive Pioneer unit. Sound quality is fine – Pioneer DJ says it has been tuned slightly to remove a bit of harshness over the XDJ-RX2, and that its sits just slightly below the XDJ-XZ and the CDJ-3000 in the sound quality specs. Pioneer DJ’s sound quality tier places the XDJ-RX3 in between the RX2 and XZ. The 7-inch, full-colour LCD screen displays information about both players simultaneously for intuitive alignment of beat grids and a visual reference to what features are in play. The screen has two modes:Space and Crush FX are the Sound Color effects that weren’t present on the XDJ-RX2 which as we’ve pointed out featured just 4 basic Sound Color effects and 8 Beat FX. 3-band waveforms view XDJ-RX3 features a 1280×800 10.1-inch touch display and comes with GUI that you may already know from the new Pioneer CDJ-3000 players – the user interfaces are almost identical. The Pioneer vs Traktor discussion is v interesting. I have used CDJ 2000 nxs a lot and I simply don’t find them as intuitive as the traktor system, both Manually and in SYNC mode.

The middle section of the screen on the XDJ-RX3 can either show you the performance pad functionality details in the status mode or let you control audio FX in the beat FX mode. One final option to consider is the Pioneer DDJ SB3. The XDJ RX2 is an expensive controller. If you are a new DJ you’ll be better suited to an entry-level option. Plenty of features to allow you to get your feet wet. You can always upgrade down the line. more Sound Color FX and 6 more Beat FX in comparison to the XDJ-RX2 (features full DJM-900NXS2 mixer audio effects section) Personally I needed a larger scope and already had an investment in Traktor / Laptop. So S8 made more sense for me. 1 week in and still finding features, functionalities and quirks 😉I mean, I am sure that traktor is great piece of software and hardware (never used it though) but what do you do if you are about to DJ in a booth where there is (only) DJM/CDJ setup? You would have to bring your own external audio interface (A4/6/10) and a laptop right? The Denon Prime 4 Plus is one of the most obvious alternatives to the RX3. It’s a robust controller with excellent features and offers four-channel mixing. These controls are the same across the Pioneer range. This is great for experienced DJs as you’ll feel right at home. Likewise, it’s good for new DJs that have ambitions of eventually playing on club gear.

The XDJ-RX, though, is the first controller to come close to hitting the spot with Rekordbox – close enough for us to feel excited about using it. Aside from the library searching issue, there’s not much I missed here from DJing with Traktor, Serato or VirtualDJ plus a controller – and I did like the Pioneer look and feel. I’ve had the unit for about a week now and its great, but this weekend I tested out the ‘hot-swappability’ of the unit in terms of standard flash (no rekordbox analysis), rekordbox flash, laptop via ProLink, AND Traktor, and these are my thoughts which I wrote elsewhere but wanted to share them here as they may help some in making a decision.

Do we have any rumors if XDJ-RZ is coming out anytime soon? (with 4 channels, split cues and touch screen/s) ? Thank you very much for all the input. I really appreciate your professional view at it. Too bad Phil is not saying much in that respect 🙁 😛 The Performance Pad section of the Pioneer XDJ RX2 is capable but doesn’t contain as many features as other controllers. On paper at least, the XDJ-RX is the first controller from Pioneer that has convincing answers to some of the big shortcomings people roll out when it comes to software DJing – and I’m not referring to the detractors who won’t give it a go, but those of us who’ve done it for years and still see things about it that aren’t perfect.
