About this deal

Maggotkin of Nurgle is a faction of the Grand Alliance Chaos and represents one of the major Chaos Gods: Nurgle. Indeed, over the past few weeks, we’ve been looking at how the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar affects every faction , introducing each of them, and offering guidance on which of their units and strategies will work most effectively. Well, now it’s the turn of the Maggotkin of Nurgle to fall under the faction spotlight, but before we hand you over to our specialist playtester, let’s take a look at an overview of the faction’s lore. Who Are the Maggotkin of Nurgle? In battle the bands of Putrid Blightkings form the rank and file of the Maggotkin of Nurgle, banding together to wreak havoc in the name of grandfather Nurgle. Their hulking mass is often enough to barge right through enemy lines. Their plagued cleavers, swords, and scythes carving a bloody path of death and slaughter. Along with their comrades and daemon allies, they’ll turn the Mortal Realms into Nurgle’s own paradise. One battle at a time. On the Field Exploding 6 refers to special rules that result from rolling a 6 on your dice. In this case, causing an extra hit.

Despite still needing to finish his body and decide on what weapons to give him, I am very satisfied with how the terminator is coming along. While it has taken much longer than I had anticipated, I think the extra green stuff work really ties the model together and make him a more convincing Death Guard terminator. It has also been really fun creating weapons for the model, mixing old and new pieces together, merging Fantasy and 40k. Although I have some ideas, I am still very much in the planning phase for the rest of the squad. Therefore, I would love to hear what you all think of the current terminator, and what you would like to see with future ones! Almost every unit (only Nurglings are excluded) can become battleline, but Plaguebearers and Blightkings are great options, so you can never go wrong. As he is the Lord of Decay, the Chaos God of pestilence and plagues, his gifts to humans are exactly what you would expect: diseases of all sorts that are carried by Nurgle’s mortal and daemonic followers, the Maggotkin, so that they can spread across all Mortal Realms. The Putrid Blightking with Blighted Weapon has the same weapon profile of the Icon Bearer and no special ability for 5 points less. Sometimes it may even be useful to put them in reserve with Gutrot Spume and re-appear deep in the enemy lines considering their somehow slow movement of 4″.

While I liked the look of the sword, I thought it would be wise to devise some form of firearm for the terminator, as well. With all the imagery of the plague marines of old, I decided the weapon needed to be a bolter of some kind. Similar to what Jeff Vader decided on with his wonderful plague marine conversion, I choose to base his firearm on one of the old 2nd edition plastic bolters. Since this was a terminator, I decided to modify the bolter into a combiflamer using one of the Cataphractii combiflamer attachments from Forge World. If they are truly MI then they are brokenly undercosted. I don't think 'infantry' is a typo however as the minimum size is 5 models and physically they appear much smaller than an Ogre or Troll even if they share the same base size. And M4 is way too low for MI.

While most chaos followers are frightening, these take it to a whole new level! When you see them ready to strike, it might just be better to run away! Get out your most ridden gear and let’s learn about some lore! In the World That's 400 points of hammies vs 400 points of blight Kings. They are slightly more efficient per point, so you need to kill a few models before combat, but not excessively shooting them up. After all, skullcrushers, chariots and chimera will need to be shot.

Kieran: As an army, the Maggotkin of Nurgle have a little bit of everything. They can fight, they can shoot, they can move well, they’re insanely tough to kill, and they have access to both the summoning rules and powerful spells. They make a great all-comers army if you like to play a tactical long game. The good news is, they were good before, but now they’re even better! The term glass cannon means an army that hits especially hard, but shatters when it takes a little bit of damage. However, I soldiered on and soon enough I had enough spare bits to build everything I wanted and I could start assembly. As mentioned above, these will not be perfect replicas of the Games Workshop cast parts so be prepared to do a lot of filing, sanding and gap filling. Fortunately, a lot of the milliput bits end up being covered or obscured by actual plastic bits so it shouldn’t be too bad. Final Thoughts

Fast forward to the end of 2019 and we saw some adjustments – reducing the consistency of the Locus of Diversion and lowering the ability to summon during the game. This, combined with the loss of realm artefacts, pushed the army down firmly into the fat middle.* They’re still competitive, despite not ruling the top tables anymore. The next major hurdle to be surmounted was the terminator’s weapons. To keep with the terminator-heavy theme, I decided that I needed to equip the model with a powerfist. This was a pretty simple conversion, just requiring me to snip off the Blightkings lower arm and replace it with one of the Cataphractii powerfists. Next I added some torn cabling hanging from the weapon and an elbow guard taken from a plastic space marine terminator. Aside from adding a shoulderpad, I don’t believe I will add anymore armour plating to his powerfist arm (now it looks like armour has fallen off after years of warfare and demonic corruption). They become battleline in a Drowned Men army or if a Lord of Afflictions is the general. And there’s few more benefits in having either: Drowned Men subfaction allows both the Pusgoyle and the Lord of Afflictions a free move after deploy, while the Lord of Afflictions can be set up in reserve together with Pusgoyle or Plague Drones, perfect for ambushing tactics. Another big vote for Gyros, and a smaller for Rangers. If they do go big with this unit and deathstar it, the same tactics used against the dreaded Gutstar work quite well as these dude are slower! Chaff 'em, chaff 'em, chaff 'em, and score points elsewhere.
