Not having on board controls is the biggest downside to the Soma Smart Shades. While you can fully automate the blinds with the apps own schedules or your smart home, ad-hoc changes need to be done via the app, which may not be convenient for some family members. The Sunsa app provides direct control over as many blinds as you like, and these can be group arbitrarily as required for easier control. Basic scheduling functions are also included here, but anything smarter will require the use of Alexa. Potential Concerns The limited smart home integration is my biggest issue here, as well as not supporting all cord types. While most blinds will use a beaded chain, things like tilt blinds are probably off the table for most people. My Recommendations This is a very quiet motor, and despite the tremendous lift capacity, it only uses 1.5 A of current @ 12v DC (very efficient too).

In the picture above, the crown adapter has been partially slid onto the motor, but not right to the end (left side) where it fits into one end of the tube. You may not have heard of Moes, but they’ve been around for a while and have a wide range of low cost smart home devices across many categories. This is their newest tubular blind motor model, and offers both 433MHz RF and Zigbee for wireless control. The RF is used primarily to connect to their wireless remote controls, for which there are handheld and wall mounted options with single or multiple blind support. Level 3 - Z-WAVE ® Blind Automation: This protocol is often used in home automation systems. We have a Z-Wave interface for roller shade and blind motors, and Z-Wave control of our skylight and window opener systems. You can also use Alexa ® and Google Home ®. There is also special tubing available with a splined wall (eg. Rollease®) that our motors are also designed to work with. It is more difficult to obtain and more expensive than standard round tubing. Our standard series will fit perfectly in Rollease® 1.5" tubing. Our Maxi series uses 2.5" tubing (63mm OD) and can lift very large shades and blinds. In this article, we'll show you the various components; these heavy duty motors are really not significantly different from our standard series (including the same radio protocol), except that everything is larger, and the lift capacity is much higher. The standard series is designed to work in most situations with almost any window size where you want to install a motorized blind or shade with remote control. There are two models in this series, with different gearing and lift capacities: 6 lb (2.7 kg) @ 34 rpm and 12 lb (5.5 kg) @ 28 rpm.
