Before her brief marriage, she was a hairstylist, and she contemplates the possibility of leveraging this skill to make a fresh start. Some relationships need mending, some things must be come to terms with, and the kids are growing up fast. I enjoy mysteries but I’m normally not drawn to books with military themes (as noted, I thought this was a lighter beach read) but it was well done and I’m glad I read it.

The Summer House - Penguin Books UK

What the kids don’t know is there will be an announcement that the beach house, with decades of memories, will be put up for sale when the week is over. As Cook and his team struggle to put together pieces of evidence that just won't fit, powerful forces rally against them to try to ensure that damning secrets are buried along with the victims. Patterson has been able to find some quality collaborators over the years and this is one instance in which the novel lived up to the hype. Working a military investigation angle, the authors do more than pump up the US Military, able to spin a mystery like few others I have read of late. It is not terribly fast moving, but remains interesting and will hold your attention from start to finish.Knowing I was unlikely to be accurate in my predictions just made this story more immersive and I relished in reaching the final revelations. Everyone in the family has a secret- from the parents, to the three adult children, to one of the grandchildren. After more information is found Lana starts to wonder if she actually saw her boyfriends brother that’s night or if someone else killed Camille. Finding out what she has Lana goes and tells Xavier what she’s found and he believes her after the journal turns up missing.

The Summer House By James Patterson |The Works

The bottled emotions caused some extremely intense scenes throughout the novel and made me flip the pages faster and faster. Great transitions from the past to present day as we learn, through slow but growing suspense, about the horrific circumstances that have shaped our characters’ present lives.Sam and Evan are dealing with adoption struggles, Paige’s husband David is looking for work and her teenage children are beginning to draw away from her overbearing ways and Clementine is a young widow dealing with her own small children and the loss of her beloved husband. However, Cook and his investigative team are in way over their heads in what appears to be a clear and cut case with the killers already in custody. As the case progresses, Cook becomes suspicious that there may be more to the story, concealed by those involved. Overall, “The Summer House” reminded me a bit of the NCIS television show and Nelson DeMille’s 2001 novel “The General’s Daughter”, but not in a bad way.

Both have moved on and away from Norfolk and neither want to be back at the place that holds such horrific memories for them. In small-town, Sullivan Georgia, located near Savannah, is a dump of a Southern home that was once considered to be a luxurious summer getaway. Hi, I'm Keri Beevis, and I'm the author of the bestselling psychological suspense thrillers, Deep Dark Secrets, Dying To Tell, The Sleepover, and The Summer House.

In the end, the real mystery for me is how James Patterson has managed to produce books like this and somehow become the world’s best-selling and wealthiest author. There was never a dull moment, the book never loses momentum and becomes even better with each page. It also felt like there were too many people involved, and when it all was revealed I wasn’t very enthusiastic. As witnesses disappear and escalating violence suggests a cover-up, Cook and his CID team race against time to find answers and protect both themselves and the local community.
