About this deal

Effectively, the space previously taken up by the bearing cups can now be used as frame real-estate, allowing larger (and stiffer) tubes to be used. Because the crank arms are straighter, we can make them lighter than BB30 ones,” he says. “But because the BB386 EVO spindles are longer than BB30 ones, they aren’t as stiff. Total stiffness is not a measure of crank stiffness alone, though. When you factor in the stiffness gains from a wider shell, the overall stiffness will be highest when BB386 EVO frames meet BB386 EVO cranks.” The granting of a best price is not combinable with other promotions (e.g. "free articles) from Bike-Discount. Table of crankset standards and compatible BBs (all the cranksets are compatible with the BBs of the same standard, of course, the others needing a special adapter): Crankset standard PF30, OSBB, BB386EVO if it matches the spindle length, BB30A if the crankset has spacers on the left side

I'm actually wondering about the Tiagra bb RS500, which seems massive, compared to BBR60 and DuraAce bb. Anyone taken one of those apart? Are the bearings bigger or just the shells?BB shell width 86.5mm road, 91.5mm MTB. Other widths may be named according to shell dimensions: 89.5mm, 104.5mm, 107mm, 121mm, 132mm

Other notes Threaded shell can be made with better tolerances and can be replaced if it wears out. CeramicSpeed now offers a fully integrated bearing (akin to T47) that will fit 30mm spindles Other notes Asymmetric BB shell which is wider on non-driveside. Wider overall shell is also claimed to improve bearing support PF30Cons: Same as BB90/95 in theory, but in practice there are generally less issues experienced due to the less stringent tolerances Essentially the tool presses the bearings into the frame. It's designed to do this squarely, though like any tool, if used incorrectly it can result in problems. In most cases it's a job for a professional mechanic, who'll have the tools and the experience. Technically only the R9100 is considered 'Dura-Ace', the others are 'non-series'. In any case they are all interchangeable - you can use BB-RS500 with an R9100 crankset.
