About this deal

Where Oymaru works great with polymer clay is to create textures. You can “copy” textures from everyday objects with Oyumaru. It’s too stiff to make a flexible mat, but it works great to make a texture stamping tool. I can imagine using Oyumaru to mold a ribbon filigree shape from a picture frame. You could then push polymer clay into this mold, making multiple shapes to be used on many more picture frames. Are Oyumaru Molds Durable? I only had a single pair of legs for two scorpion upper-halves, so used a simple stamp mold to replicate the legs. Now this lil’ buddy is ready to terrorize a Deathworld Forest terrain piece or model base!

I used it to copy details from pre-cast minature (fantasy) environment object such as book-shelves with jars, sculls, books and vials to use in my own dioramas, molding with pretty good result using das pronto-clay. I expect even better results using GS or Miliput. When I first looked at instant mold, it became apparent that its re-branded 'Oyumaru' a Japanese craft item. Even imported, its cheaper and available in many colours. I didn’t try making two-part molds with Oyumaru, but it is possible. This video shows how to use a similar material called Blue Stuff to cast parts of a small alien figurine. This should give you some ideas of other ways you could use this material to make molds. Using Oymaru Molds A sculpting tool to move the oyumaru in the containers with heated water and push the oyumaru around the pieces. this stuff is amazing, and for the hobbyist like gold. However there is room for improvement to get finer details. It is a mixture of 2 components that must be mixed in the same proportion of quantity. Mold your shell as long as the siligum is soft, it stiffens after 10 min, you can then unmold the object and use the mold to make copies of forms. The siligum goes into the oven at 130 degrees without any problem so you can directly cook your polymer clay in this mold. This mold remains flexible you can use talc if you need it. This mold can also be used for the use of the epoxy resin but not the UV resin.

Face mask to avoid breathing the resin fumes. We also do the resin casting in a well ventilated area. There are other craft thermoplastics on the market. Some brand names are Polly Plastics, PolyDoh, PolyMorph, ThermoMorph, Friendly Plastic, and Moldamer. These may be similar to InstaMorph, or they could have different melting points and hardness after forming and cooling. Thermoplastics with Polymer Clay?

BLOG STATS

There are several thermoplastics on the market for DIY and crafting use. I also tested one called InstaMorph. This is a very different product with vastly different uses because the plastic itself is much harder than Oyumaru. InstaMorph comes in a resealable pouch filled with white plastic pellets. The melting process is similar; just pour into hot water and wait for the pellets to melt. The pellets turn completely clear when melted. You can then scoop them together into a ball and form the mass into a shape. Once cool, InstaMorph turns white again and is very hard. I did make a push mold with InstaMorph, but it’s not really suitable for this purpose as there is NO flex at all and you can’t un-mold anything you cast into it. But it can be used to create rigid molds. Let the Instant Mold cool. You can run it under cold water, toss it into the fridge, or simple relax with a good book and wait. The wait shouldn’t take long – 10-15 minutes should be more than adequate in your average room temperature – but it’s always better to err on the side of waiting too long. Trying to remove the mold too early can stretch and deform it, as it will still be pliable, so I recommend poking it with something to guarantee it’s fully hardened before you move to the next step. So as the old adage goes: if you want something done well and are too poor to pay someone else to do it, do it yourself. So here you are, dear reader – the simplest and most wonderful guide to Instant Mold you will ever find.

plastic cups: one for the compound A, one for the compound B and one to make the mix. You should label them even if it is quite easy to recognize which is which.Reproducing your favorite helmet for an entire homebrew Guard Regiment instead of spending a fortune on bits. If you’re in the UK (and EU), Clayaround carries Oyumaruas well as Metal Clay Ltd., who also carries other thermoplastics. I just heard from Sue at Creative Journey Studios in Georgia, and they have Oyumaru in their shop. And if you’re in the EU, Happy Things has it, too. (Let me know if you know another good source.) Other Thermoplastics I’ve been searching for some time for a simple online tutorial to share this magical tool with people. Despite much searching, however, every tutorial that I came across seemed to share the same problem: they made things too complicated! Using Instant Mold is a simple joy, and all the online tutorials I found kept trying to add needless steps, like building LEGO frames. I have no picture of this. It's easier to work with both compounds in a plastic cup than take them directly from they containers, specially when the containers have been used and it is impossible to reach with the syringe the compound. Years ago I painted a rare and expensive Genestealer Patriarch on Throne model on commission – while I had it, I took the opportunity to make press-molds of the intricate throne details. Years later, I made this cast of the Patriarch design to use as the banner for a counts-as Acolyte Iconward.
