About this deal

Dalwhinnie whisky distillery, sitting between the Grampian and Monadhliath mountain ranges of Inverness-shire is Scotland’s highest working distillery at 327m or 1073 ft above sea level. That means it gets really cold up there. It has the lowest average temperature in the UK at around 6°C and the distillery often gets cut off during the winter. That cold weather has a distinct effect on the whisky’s character, as we shall see. Though it is close to Speyside, Dalwhinnie is classed as a Highland distillery. The tester from eyeforspirits.com was only moderately convinced of the 43 percent drink. It is noted, for example, that the aromas of the whiskey are only weak - both in terms of smell and taste. However, the pleasant sweetness that ultimately dominates the taste is well received. The finish can also score with its mild note. Overall, however, some complexity is missing. In the test by takethatliver.org, one thing above all became clear. The whiskey should appeal to all those whiskey lovers who prefer a sweet taste. Because the focus here is on fruity notes reminiscent of honey. Nuances of oak wood ensure a balanced relationship. Sweet Spicy Aroma Situated in the middle of Cairngorm National Park in Scotland, the Dalwhinnie Distillary has been producing single malt whisky since 1897. Shop Dalwhinnie’s collection below for a smooth but complex marriage of the two powerhouses of whisky identities. For most people the classic Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old whisky is the best place to start. The heavy sulphurous new make has been tamed by long ageing to produce something gloriously smooth and honeyed, with just a little smoke and an underlying meatiness.

With a distinct honeyed and fruity taste, Dalwhinnie whisky has become one of the most loved highland whiskies around. It is one of the few whiskies that straddles the Highland/Speyside boarder giving it a uniqueness that few other malts can offer. The whiskey was very well received in the test by spirituosen-journal.de. It already convinces with its harmonious smell of sweet and subtly smoky essences. This is crowned by slightly woody, spicy nuances and a mild aftertaste. Due to the balanced note, the tester recommends enjoying the 15-year-old Dalwhinnie neat and not with ice cubes or even soft drinks. In addition to the taste, the production method of the drink, which is still done in a traditional way, is also convincing. The bulbous bottle scores with its recognition value, but the opening could be a little narrower. The price-performance ratio, on the other hand, collects plus points again. Fruity Notes Reminiscent of Honey This cookie is set by Rubicon Project to control synchronization of user identification and exchange of user data between various ad services. In 1905 it was sold again, this time to an American company called Cook & Bernheimer making it the first – but not the last – time a Scotch whisky distillery would be bought by a North American distiller. Then in 1926 Dalwhinnie was bought by the Distillers Company, a forerunner company of Diageo, where it remains to this day. But the excitement didn’t end there as it closed in 1934 following a fire in February of that same year, reopening once more in 1938. The distillery lost its floor maltings in 1968 and then in 1987 the distillery was treated to a thorough modernisation. Only things didn't quite go to plan when the traditional worm tubs were removed and shell and tube condensers installed, because the new make just didn’t taste the same. So eight years later the distillery was refitted and (hooray!) the traditional worm tubs were reinstated. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA.
