About this deal

Limited human data show that the drug does pass into breast milk following systemic administration. However, the dosage received by a nursing infant following maternal use of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream would be expected to be insignificant. Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream contains 200 mg propylene glycol in each daily dose which is equivalent to 400 mg/g. Propylene glycol can cause skin irritations.

Contains the anti-viral agent, aciclovir 5%, that inhibits the multiplication of the cold sore virus Once you carry the virus, there is always a risk that you could pass it on to a partner, regardless of whether you are experiencing symptoms. It is best to continue using a condom once your lesions have healed to reduce the risk of transmission. In two multicentre, double blind, randomised clinical studies involving 1,385 subjects treated over 4 days for recurrent herpes labialis, Zovirax Cold Sore Cream 5% was compared to vehicle cream. Based on the pooled dataset from the two studies the mean time from clinician-assessed start of treatment to healing (episode duration) was 4.6 days using Zovirax Cold Sore Cream and 5.0 days using vehicle cream (p<0.001). The median clinician-assessed episode duration was 4.0 days using aciclovir cream (25%-ile=3.0 days, 75%-ile=6.0 days) and 4.3 days using vehicle cream (25%-ile=3.1 days, 75%-ile=6.6 days), with a corresponding hazard ratio of 1.22 (p<0.001). Product Claims: Zovirax Cold Sore Treatment cuts cold sore healign time in half compared with no treatment. **On average compared with historical data for untreated cold sores

Using a condom will help reduce the risk of transmission. As condoms only cover the penis, but leave other areas of your partner’s skin exposed, there is still a risk that you could transmit the virus, even when using a condom. Aciclovir tablets can be taken without food but you should drink a glass of water whenever you take a tablet. You should also drink plenty of water during your treatment to minimise the risk of dehydration, as aciclovir can be harmful to the kidneys if you become dehydrated. Which dosage do I require? The use of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream should be considered only when the potential benefits outweigh the possibility of unknown risks however the systemic exposure to aciclovir from topical application of aciclovir cream is very low. A post-marketing aciclovir pregnancy registry has documented pregnancy outcomes in women exposed to any formulation of Zovirax. The birth defects described amongst Zovirax exposed subjects have not shown any uniqueness or consistent pattern to suggest a common cause. KEY FEATURES• Zovirax Cold Sore Treatment cuts cold sore healing time in half compared with no treatment. **On average compared with historical data for untreated cold sores

Not only can you infect your fingers with virus – you may infect your cold sore with other germs (eg bacteria). Systemic administration of aciclovir in internationally accepted standard tests did not produce embryotoxic or teratogenic effects in rats, rabbits or mice.

Uses / Instructions

Aciclovir is an antiviral agent which is highly active in vitro against herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2. Toxicity to mammalian host cells is low. Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.
