About this deal

Despite its very, very small stature, the DYU D3F’s 265lb weight rating certainly suggests its built with adult riders in mind. Though, this bike has become popular for children — something we actually tested in this review. And there are also suggestions its miniature size has some function behind it. The DYU D3F is a choice for budget-minded riders looking for an e-bike that will fit into spaces other bikes would not. I can only see people purchasing this bike if they specifically need to be able to fold down and fit their e-bike inside the boot of a car. When looking at the available options, this is probably the most affordable e-bike on the market, and it comes with the same downsides other budget bikes do. You switch the lights on by holding down the button on the right of the handlebars for a few seconds. The brakes are mechanical disk brakes, and an important note here is that the set on our review bike arrived reversed with the left hand lever operating the rear brake and the right lever operating the front brake.

Portability is another strength of the DYU D3F. Weighing just 38 pounds and equipped with a folding handlepost and grab handle, this Electric bike is exceptionally easy to transport. Whether you need to take it on public transportation or store it in a tight space, the DYU D3F’s compact design ensures that it won’t be a burden. Its lightweight nature makes it an ideal choice for urban commuters and individuals who frequently need to carry their bikes.

The brakes also have cut-off switches built into the levers. This means that when you brake, the motor automatically switches off, shortening your stopping distances, which is a welcome safety feature. When it comes to safety, the D3F is pretty good, but you need to exercise caution when riding on bumpy roads and keep a lookout for bumps and potholes, thanks to those tiny wheels. It’s refreshing to see that DYU has fitted the D3F with mechanical disc brakes. Hydraulic disc brakes would be overkill on a bike like this, but these mechanical items provide plenty of stopping power and are much safer than rim brakes, especially in wet weather. e-Bikes and e-Cargo bikes can be legally ridden on roads if you are over 14 years old and if the e-Bike or e-Cargo fits a strict criteria which can be found here.

The motor isn’t the best for hill climbing but on a flat surface it has no problem cruising at 12-13 mph.

Kickstand

It weighs 17kg, so it’s not something you’d want to carry for a long way, but it is very convenient. It’s got a single speed drivetrain with a 38x12t ratio that feels a little spinny while you’re cruising but is a nice gear for helping the motor up hills.

It’s not just its portability that will win you over. The DYU D3F E-Bike is delivered completely pre-assembled. No complicated instructions, no misplaced screws – just unbox and start riding. When it comes to making your commute enjoyable, the electric assistance feature is a real game-changer. You can weave through traffic and climb steep inclines with little to no effort, keeping your energy levels intact for the rest of the day. We like the look and design of the DYU D3F, as it offers something different and fun from traditional electric bikes. Although, you’ll need to get used to turning heads as you ride. The bike looks a little odd, and the first ride has a similar vibe, switching between childish fun and the slightly awkward feeling that accompanies riding an undersized bike. At least for me, at 6’0”, the fit is less than ideal, yet somehow manageable for short periods. If the DYU D3F can really go 30+ miles, the range test is going to be a tough one! So in a nutshell, the D3F seems like a great toy e-bike. Plus, for short-range or mixed commuting with a lower weight and general profile, its mobility is increased. So, is it a toy? Or could it be of some use to budget-minded commuters? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons and find out more. When it came to the range test, I was impressed with this little bike! Despite the fact that the battery cannot be removed, it is large. A 10Ah battery, operating a small 250W motor, could be considered oversized for this small bike. It was able to power the unit for over 22 miles using mainly throttle. Now, this route included only mellow grades, but the bike made it up them with some additional pedal power. The range test was slow, taking over two hours to reach the 22-mile maximum. But even so, the ability to throttle yourself for over 20 miles on this little bike, really made it seem like a capable mini commuter. So the bike earns some serious points with its maximum battery range.

DYU D3F-specifikation Motor After a couple of rides, you’ll learn how to get the best out of the D3F and begin to enjoy its agile handling and tight turning circle. Because of the bike’s tiny size, I personally think most people are going to be zipping around on the throttle and only pedaling to get up to speed and to help the motor up hills. That’s what I did, at least. The DYU D3F’s lightweight aluminium alloy frame and convenient foldability easily set it apart in the world of urban commuting. Its innovative design allows easy transportation on a bus, underground, or even in the boot of a car. Say goodbye to parking issues and the hefty lifting of traditional bikes – the DYU D3F smoothly segues into your life, effortlessly storable at home, work, or anywhere else available.

The D3F is a single-speed bike, so it doesn’t have a derailleur. This means that it performs best on flat-ish roads. So, if you live in a hilly area, you’d be better off with a more powerful electric bike with gears. We’ll dive into the details of power and handling later, but in short, don’t expect a ton from this super affordable mini bike. That’s OK, especially if you’re buying it as a toy and not transportation, but it’s no sportscar. The battery is integrated into the frame. This means that you will not be able to remove it to charge or replace it. You also will not have the option to bring a second battery along for a ride. The entire unit will need to be replaced, should it suffer an issue. This is inconvenient and not as practical as having a removable battery. Both these failures happened with me riding the bike, a full-grown 170 lb adult male. But, considering this is an e-bike that’ll often be used by kids, we had our Junior Test Rider take a third run at Hell Hole to see what would happen with a smaller, lighter human at the controls. Amazingly, the DYU cleared the hill with ease. Let’s take a closer look at the electrical specifications and features of the DYU D3F. It is equipped with a 36V, 10Ah (360Wh) battery, providing ample power for extended rides. The LED display allows riders to monitor essential information such as battery life, speed, and distance traveled. The 240W rear hub motor delivers efficient and reliable performance. For enhanced safety, the DYU D3F includes both a headlight and taillights, ensuring visibility in low-light conditions. The pedal assist system, with one level of assistance controlled by a cadence sensor, offers a user-friendly and intuitive riding experience. Additionally, a throttle is included for moments when riders prefer to rely solely on motor power.
