Compared to the Ultrasone Edition 8, the DT 880 lacks bass for enjoying movies, but for music, these DT 880s have far cleaner and open sound. Soundstage - IMO the stgae is not overly large for an open can - and is probably deeper than it is wide. Headphone reference notes - I like to demo all headphones against my Beyerdynamic Dt 880, as they are a well know reference can. There's plenty of room for detail and i never had a feeling that the sound is stuck in my head, instead it feels like im in the middle of a concert.

Over the following eight years I moved through the manufacturers and ranges, expanding my passion as I went . Moving onto the ear pads, I was surprised to find the velour material on the DT 880 is not the same as the 770. I was looking for a well balanced headphone when I demoed the DT880, and that really is it's strong-point.

My one regret with the DT880 is that the mids are not a little more to the front of the spectrum, and I would love to see them a little warmer.

They're also not as tight as DT 990 out of the box, but unfortunately, the angle of ear cups causes them to put an uncomfortable amount of pressure between your jaw and your ear lobe which can get a bit tiring after having them on for a while.

For casual listening and mixing purposes, I would love my headphones to sound as close as possible to my Focal monitors, for a seamless transition. The DT 880 look similar to the DT 990 PRO but have enough unique touches to feel like a different design.
