About this deal

The Dutch poster artwork for Death Proof claimed that the film would feature "coming attractions" from Robert Rodriguez. [14] In the United Kingdom, Death Proof was released on September 21, 2007, and in Australia on November 1, 2007. [15] Explaining the split in foreign releases, Tarantino stated, "Especially if they were dealing with non-English language countries, they don't really have this tradition … not only do they not really know what a grindhouse is, they don't even have the double feature tradition. So you are kind of trying to teach us something else." [16] Critical reception [ edit ]

Stuntman Mike wants to kill people. For reasons unknown. The kill sequences are pretty cool and is the best scene in the entire movie for more reasons than one. The women here are so boring that I found myself quenched with blood lust and was rooting for Stuntman Mike. Stuntman Mike is easily one of the most cool villains ever, or in this case, a hero. Death Proof starts in Austin Texas where radio show host Jungle Julia Lacai (Sydney Poitier) & two of her friends stop off at a bar where they meet a guy who calls himself Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) who turns out to be a mad psycho who uses his 'death proof' car to murder young girls & he intends for the three friends to be his latest victims...In 2007, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez joined forces to create the Grindhouse film experience: a double feature intended to emulate the thrilling grittiness and distinctive roughness of 1970s exploitation cinema. R.I.P. Sally Menke, I really love her work on this movie...not only for the great grindhouse "jump cuts" but also for one of my favorite scene halfway through the movie that I won't mention and the awesome 11-min well edited car chase. Death Proof was released in the US and Canada alongside Planet Terror as part of a double feature under the title Grindhouse. Both films were released separately in extended versions internationally, approximately two months apart. [12] The additional material includes scenes that were replaced in the American theatrical release version with a "missing reel" title card, such as the lap dance scene. A total of 27 minutes were added for this version. One of the first screenings of Death Proof was made at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 20, 2007, with star Zoë Bell attending the screenings. [13] Grindhouse Dismantled". Instead of becoming angry at the garage attendant’s words I perfected my … Just because he’d rather wait in line to descend upon a discount store instead of working his assigned shift didn’t mean he had to project his need for sloth on … When it came time to create his part of Grindhouse, Quentin Tarantino had to figure out a genre. He said, "I realized I couldn't do a straight slasher film, because with the exception of women-in-prison films, there is no other genre quite as rigid." What he ended up with is a movie about a killer who uses his death proof stunt car - another obsession of his - to kill beautiful women. Death Proof came out in 2007 and I remember watching this movie with my friend and having a really good time. I watched the movie another time a few years later and really enjoyed it to for other reasons, especially the classic car chase sequence. One year later and Mike is hunting a whole new set of girls n Tennessee - Abernathy Ross, Kim Mathis, Lee Montgomery and Zoe Bell (Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and, yes, Zoe Bell). This time, it doesn't go so well for Mike, who gets obliterated by the women.Taratino's own jukebox - AMI - was used here, with the list of songs written out in his own hand. The hot summer brings out all the stunning girls in their hot shorts, tight tops and sassy attitudes. Two such groups of girls are enjoying a carefree world of dance, music, boys and drink when they find themselves stalked by the charming but yet sinister "Stuntman Mike" – a killer hunting down young women and killing them with his "death proof" car. The women prepare to depart with Lanna, another friend. Pam, Julia's old classmate, accepts Mike's offer of a ride home. Mike takes Pam to his Hollywood stunt car rigged with a roll cage and tells her the car is "death proof", but only for the driver. He speeds and slams on the brakes, smashing Pam's skull on the dashboard, killing her. He catches up with the women's car and drives into it at high speed, killing them. Mike survives with no serious injury. Sheriff McGraw believes Mike killed the women intentionally, but because Mike was sober while the women were intoxicated, he cannot be charged. I don't think Tarantino was making a real movie as much he was making what he thought a film like this should be. Clearly he doesn't know films as well as he thinks he does. (I mean that literally as well as figuratively since there are times in the Grindhouse version when the film gets splicey and dialog repeats exactly the way a film wouldn't if you chopped out frames. and then repaired it.) If it was anyone other than Tarantino the film would have been hidden away or burned. Worse, if the film had been made in the 1970's when the films he mentions were made this film would have ended up lost, probably never going to home video-or if not lost then boxed in those 50 movie DVD sets that contain a great deal of crap because no one would ever put the films out except as filler. Its turbo version is a hoot to drive, but let’s face it — the thing looks like an angry Pokemon. A new NISMO sport version … (in unfortunate-quality plastics) and a ball-type shift knob. Bradshaw, Peter (September 21, 2007). "The Guardian's Death Proof review". London . Retrieved February 23, 2013. The Guardian 's Peter Bradshaw expressed admiration for the car crash scene, describing it as "a lethal roar of entertainment", but said that the film was padded with "long, long, long stretches of bizarrely inconsequential conversation […] which are a big comedown from the glorious riffs from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction", and that overall "Tarantino's twisted genius is there for all to see – but, it must now be admitted, all too briefly". [22] Tarantino said at a director's roundtable, " Death Proof has got to be the worst movie I ever made. And for a left-handed movie, that wasn't so bad, all right? — so if that's the worst I ever get, I'm good." [23] That jukebox list is more interesting to me than this film. I've tried several times to enjoy it and get into it - the grindhouse nature of it being so talky isn't lost on me. It just never really goes anywhere, no matter how many times I watch it.
