There is equal time given to both girl and boy characters, though the main character is a girl. The girls in the book are brave and one boy is timid while the other boy is a slight bully. Yksisarviskoulu on juuri niin lumoava paikka kuin mitä Mira on kuvitellutkin. Ja pian hän saisi tavata oman yksisarvisystävänsä. Voi kunpa se olisi kuin Diana Välkeharja! Mutta kun tulee Miran vuoro kohdata oma yksisarvinen, sitä ei näykään missään. Hetken kuluttua opettajat raahaavat sisään Tepon, pienimmän ja pulleimman, pömppömahaisen ja takkuharjaisen yksisarvisen, jonka Mira on milloinkan nähnyt.
