About this deal

Despite the game's troublesome launch, the reason why CDPR is leaving Phantom Liberty as the last little hurrah for CP2077 is because a sequel is currently in development. If the developers love the story of XOXO so much, then there's a chance that it'll place some homages to the newer story in Cyberpunk's sequel, be it in the form of including similar story beats, or a direct tie-in like the DLC from Edgerunners. Beneath the skin, flesh, and cyberware lies a beating heart--and only two things can stop a heart from beating: love and death. It's gang on gang violence as the Maelstroms target the Moxes for an ambush. Is a bloodbath underway or could this be love at first sight?

CD Projekt Red announced a new Cyberpunk 2077 comic series called XOXO, which tells an explosive love story set in the game's world. Given that the Cyberpunk series originated as a tabletop roleplaying game and was later adapted into a video game by CDPR, it is not surprising to see it venture into other forms of media. This was evident with the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime created by Studio TRIGGER. Now, CP2077 is venturing into new territory with its latest comic series, Cyberpunk 2077 XOXO. Cyberpunk 2077 fans, get ready, because an all-new comic series called Cyberpunk 2077: XOXO has been officially announced and is set to hit the shelves in October. Published by Dark Horse, this four-issue series offers a unique Cyberpunk take on the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. Due to the game's troubled release, CDPR is saving Phantom Liberty for CP2077's final hurrah as they are currently developing a sequel. If the developers have a strong affection for the story of XOXO, it is possible that the sequel to Cyberpunk will include nods to the newer story, such as similar plot elements or a direct tie-in like the DLC from Edgerunners. Phantom Liberty is expected to revolutionize the game, but its release is scheduled almost a month prior to that of XOXO. While it is possible for CD Projekt Red to include subtle references that would only be fully understood by fans after reading the newer comics, this may not be a top priority for the developers considering the numerous other changes and improvements that Cyberpunk 2077 is undergoing with the launch of Phantom Liberty. Nonetheless, this does not necessarily mean that XOXO will be completely disregarded.Phantom Liberty is set to change the game, but it releases almost a month ahead of XOXO. While it's possible for CD Projekt Red to slip in a few references that could only be noticed once fans read the newer comics, it might not be high on their priority list compared to all the other overhauls that Cyberpunk 2077 is getting with Phantom Liberty's launch. That doesn't mean that XOXO will be forgotten for certain, though. Cyberpunk 2077: XOXO is a four-issue limited series written by Bartosz Sztybor and illustrated by Jakub Rebelka, with letters by Frank Cvetkovic. Cover artists on the first issue include Rebelka, Fabrizio De Tommaso, Jeffrey Alan Love and Rion Chow. Here's the official description for the first issue: Regardless of what the future holds, Cyberpunk fans can take comfort in knowing that Phantom Liberty will not mark the end. While it will introduce a new ending to CP2077, fans can still enjoy Dark Horse's Cyberpunk 2077 comics and other collaborations with CD Projekt Red until their next release, whether it be the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel, something related to The Witcher, or an entirely new project. Written by Bartosz Sztybor, who also worked on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix anime series, the comic series delves into the world of gang violence and loyalty. The Maelstroms plan an ambush on the Moxes, leading to a bloodbath. Amidst the chaos, a member of the Maelstroms finds someone worth sacrificing for and experiences love at first sight. The synopsis promises a thrilling storyline filled with jaw-dropping moments and pulse-racing action.

Gang on gang violence rages towards a bloodbath when an ambush planned by the Maelstroms on the Moxes gets complicated. Corpo cargo worth a heavy sum is up for grabs, but loyalty only goes so far when love is on the line. One member of the Maelstroms has found something worth sacrificing for. He’s never known anyone like her. Jaw-dropping, eyes popping, pulse racing, could this be love at first sight? Written by Bartosz Sztybor, known for his work on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the comic holds the potential to influence the future Cyberpunk sequel, although its immediate impact on the game's current DLC remains uncertain. Given Sztybor's previous impact on CDPR's sci-fi RPG, it is reasonable to assume that fans who have learned about the XOXO comic announcement would expect to see elements from it incorporated into Phantom Liberty, especially considering the evident influence of Sztybor's writing in Edgerunners on the cybernetic rework. However, the fact that the Cyberpunk XOXO miniseries is not slated to begin until October 2023 makes it improbable that it will have any significant impact on Phantom Liberty unless Cyberpunk 2077 unintentionally reveals certain details beforehand. The latest announcement at San Diego Comic-Con for Cyberpunk 2077 has garnered significant attention. Initially, CD Projekt Red stated that Phantom Liberty would be the sole DLC expansion for the game. However, rumors began to circulate about a Cyberpunk 2077 XOXO online, leaving fans curious about the situation. CDPR stands firm on their original DLC plans, yet it appears that CP2077 is still a work in progress.
