About this deal

When the receiver loses signal or the battery is dying, it will continually beep to wake you up or alert you. What the Pro does is block out that background noise and instead only lights up when it hears sounds from your baby. We did find numerous DXR-8 consumers with similar issues though, including interference from routers and microwaves and the notoriously annoying beeping alarm which sounds for low batteries or lost signal. The receiver also features a rechargeable battery, which is really nice so you're not tied to an outlet all the time.

The DXR-8 PRO has a high-definition screen with a resolution of 720p, a massive upgrade from the DXR-8’s standard-definition, 240p-resolution screen. The Infant Optics DXR-8 was the best non-Wi-Fi option that I found; even though the signal can go in and out sometimes, that seems to be unavoidable in non-Wi-Fi monitors. In our testing, the battery life on the Infant Optics DXR-8 monitor was enough to be used unplugged during nap time and when your baby goes to bed in the evening until you go.

However, it doesn't offer sound activation or sensitivity adjustment, so you need to set the volume on the parent unit at 1 or 2 to cut the background noise. His work has appeared in leading industry publications such as IGN, Polygon, TechRadar, Playboy, and more and David has cultivated a strong, engaged social media following across Facebook and Twitter. Even though I didn't want a monitor that had an Internet connection in the first place, there are some really cool features that Wi-Fi-enabled monitors offer — like being able to check in on the baby via an app when you're away at work. For parents with multiple children, who travel frequently and want an easy-to-set up monitor once they get there, and for those who are wary of WiFi options, the Infant Optics DXR-8 is a solid choice. You will need to plug it at night to recharge while you sleep however as the battery takes about 7 hours of charging to be full.

It was also easy to find the perfect place for the camera since it can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on the wall. Most parent will sleep with the unit on their bedside table, but we recommend you move it further away. Have a look at our review of the best WiFi baby monitors if you want to be able to pair it with your iPhone or Android phone. Winning the best of baby awards from The Bump, Wired, What To Expect and many more, our award-winning monitors have a long track record as a monitor you can trust. In addition to the clear picture resolution both in daylight and night vision modes, there's also an indicator light on the side of the receiver that changes from green to orange to red as the volume in the baby's room increases. The user interface is simple, straight forward and minimizes the number of button presses to get to the needed function. Ensure the Camera and Monitor Units are placed away from other electrical equipment, such as a television, computer or cordless/mobile telephone.

This small advantage is not nearly enough to be a deal breaker when it comes to favoring smartphone-based wifi capable baby monitors.

It’s handy for ensuring your baby’s room is comfortable and might help avoid cases of SIDS, but only if the sensor is accurate. The default lens gives you a good angle that’s very similar to what you’ll find in other baby monitor models.
