About this deal

You can say something until you’re blue in the face, and it won’t do any good. People rarely change their opinions when they’re argued with. They only tend to listen to the voices of those they already agree with.” In it, you are still following Auren who is the gold plated whore (according to everyone who doesn't know shit about her) and the favored by King Midas. While on this journey with her new kidnappers, she learns a bunch about herself and the other saddles. First off, I hate the saddles because of how they treated Auren throughout these two books. They know absolutely nothing about her and judge her constantly. So, yeah, I felt bad for her and I wanted them all to be turned to gold and die.

I was so happy to see more of Digby! He was a gruff guard with a kinda hidden sweet spot for Auren in the first book, but now we can really see that their connection runs deeper than that. He really cares about Auren, even though he tried not to show it too much when he was working for Midas, and we realize that with the years he spent with Auren, he became a kind of fatherly figure to her. He's a sweetheart beneath all that grumpiness and grunting, and I love him! Then there's the commander and I loved, LOVED, the tension between these two. Now that was some serious chemistry and I definitely need more of it. Mostly because she doesn't truly love Midas or her stupid cage that she used to live in.

This is the captivating second book of The Plated Prisoner series. It’s an adult epic fantasy story blending romance, intrigue, and beautiful imagery. Return to the seductive story of magic inspired by the myth of King Midas, and get caught up in the world of Orea. And speaking of the enemy army, I really enjoyed getting to know some of the other saddles with Auren and some of the men and women in King Rot’s (fourth kingdom) army, especially Commander Rip. As soon as I met Commander Rip in the first book, I knew I was going to love him, and to say I love him is a bit of an understatement. I looooveee him! I cannot wait to see where the romance is going to go and where the story is going to go, but I know one thing for sure. I am obsessed with this series. I have loved every single book I have read of Raven Kennedy, and the Plated Prisoner series is not exception. This book is magical. If you are a fan of dark fantasies featuring interesting magic with magnetic characters and fantastic writing, the Plated Prisoners is a must read series. Raven Kennedy has announced that it will be at least 4 books long, and I am already in DESPERATE need of book 3! Be warned though, this book has one humdinger of an ending-one I did not see coming at all! Overall, I loved this wayyy more than Gild obviously like the new friendships, banter, and character development was just so good. The reason this didn't get 5 stars though is because the Malina chapters were boring and I could care less about her💀 RK opens various plot lines throughout the book, mostly done by newly introduced POVs and she fails to follow through with a single one of these plot lines. They all fade into nothing during the whole length of this book.

The slow burn was absolutely enough. There was barely any romance in this honestly like it wasn't a huge focus, which I'm totally fine with since all this sets it up for the next book anyways. I need more Aurip content for sure. There is a new character I think readers are going to be very excited to meet. I won't spoil who but she is an important figure for one of the characters. The main reason it got 4 stars from me is because of the overwhelming amount of similes. It’s not as bad as Caraval (will never be over that one either), but it is a lot. They are all well written and do make sense. I just don’t care for seeing them every few paragraphs. Not my cup of tea, you feel me? There are three new POVs in this book. The first one is the nasty queen from Third, but nobody cares about her except if it's to slap her and kill her. The other new POVs are Rissa and Osrik, and I LOVED their tense relationship. There is OBVIOUS sexual tension there, but Rissa "hates" Osrik because he's a gruff and undistinguished soldier, while Osrik knows she feels this way and will not let himself get involved with her only so she can have regrets later. Those two were not a huge part of the book, but I loved all of their chapters, and the hint of hate-to-love that we saw in this book was so promising! The betrayers. The murderers. The ones who nearly destroyed Orea, wiping out Seventh Kingdom in the process. Rip has power sizzling beneath this skin and glinting spikes down his spine. But his eyes--his eyes are the most compelling of all.

Now I’m here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom’s army, and I’m not sure if I’m going to make it out of this in one piece. They’re marching to battle, and I’m the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war. You are the worst bad mistake I’m glad I never made,” she hisses. “And you’re still the best mistake I can’t wait to make,” I retort with a smirk. It is very difficult to give a thorough review without giving spoilers so I’m just going to leave a few vague points and quotes. I may be out of my cage, but I'm not free, not even close. In the game of kings and armies, I'm the gilded pawn. The question is, can I out maneuver them?If there's something you crave, if there's some freedom you want to try the taste of, then you will do it, and I will be right there with you, watching you devour your wants. And then I will devour you." The Malina chapters felt like they didn’t belong in this book, which is a problem considering how critical they ended up being to the book’s final twist. The romance peaks but there are things that must be dealt with. There is tenderness, there is passion, there is clashing, there is love, there is wildness, and of course... it gets deliciously filthy. Commander Rip can get it anytime he wants. His name is dumb af tho and I don't claim that name, but he can still get it. The only tiny light in this series for me is him. I may be out of my cage, but I’m not free, not even close. In the game of kings and armies, I’m the gilded pawn. The question is, can I out maneuver them?

I don't think I have the right words to convey the magnitude of the emotional suffering and joy this book had caused me and I wouldn't have had it in any other way. All in all, there were some major issues with this story. That said, I will be reading the next one. See you guys next year. There’s safety in loneliness, but there’s a lurking danger too. One that doesn’t come from anything other than yourself.”Raven Kennedy is a famous American writer of paranormal, romance, erotica, romantic suspense, urban fantasy, humor, supernatural, and fantasy stories. She is the creator of several mind-blowing novel series of paranormal romance, including the Savannah Heirs series, Heart Hassle series, Void Universe series, Plated Prisoner series, Hellgate Guardians series, etc. Leading the army is Commander Rip, a notorious warrior whose name is whispered in taverns and street corners all over the six kingdoms. Many questions have been answered and I got more than I expected which I was very happy with. Many things readers have been wondering about are revealed and don't get me started on the plot twists. Thank you Raven for your generosity even if you broke and mended my heart many times throughout this book. In Highbell, people sometimes traveled for weeks just to look at me. Midas would let me stand beside him in the throne room as they gawked. But no matter how long I stood there on the pedestal for them to look, no one really saw me. If they did, they’d know I’m just a girl with jagged rips and pitted holes inside of her, with golden skin hiding a broken heart.
