About this deal

Previously, the MX500 series maxed out at 2TB capacity but recently Crucial expanded its MX500 family of SSDs with a 4TB capacity which is awesome. Redundant Array of Independent NAND: Protect your data at the component level with an SSD that automatically provides parity protection for your data. This high-end feature works similarly to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives and maintains the integrity of your data, especially for intense users.

StorageReview installed eight Crucial MX500 4TB SSDs in a Dell PowerEdge R740xd looking at RAID0 and RAID5 across the SSDs leveraging hardware RAID as well as Windows Storage Spaces. Since November 2018 the SSD comparison charts have been divided to 2.5” and M.2 models to reduce their growing size. Klarna Bank AB (publ) is Authorised by the Swedish Financial Services Authority (Finansinspektionen) and is subject to limited regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority. Finally, as we look at bandwidth across our four configurations, we find the leaders all top out around 4GB/s. This is pretty good since if you look at this in terms of shared file storage (or scratch space with RAID0) you could easily saturate a 10Gb or 25Gb LAN connection. Write performance on both HW and SW RAID0 configurations came in around 3.2GB/s, while HW RAID5 dropped to 2GB/s. Software RAID5 took the biggest read and write hit, coming in at under 1GB/s read and 272MB/s write. but the MX500 uses Dynamic Write Acceleration (DWA) which dynamically shrinks or grows the SLC cache size depending on the amount of data stored on the flash. We've tested several products with the SM2258 controller paired with various types of NAND, but they weren't that impressive. We've also tested Micron's first-gen 32-layer 3D NAND paired with several different controllers over the last year, but it was very difficult to recommend any of the SSDs. The same controllers often deliver better performance with Toshiba flash. Micron's new 64-layer 3D NAND is the key component that should improve the picture on both fronts.

Inside the box you will find the MX500 SSD, 7mm to 9.5mm plastic adapter/spacer and the installation instructions. Crucial presents an SSD with a lot of storage space with the MX500 4TB. It is by no means the first SATA SSD with this much storage, but it is an interesting alternative. In this test, we are using IOMeter which is one of the best application for stress testing the random IO performance of an SSD. IOMeter is set to use 4KB file size chunks and will stress the SSD with random 4 KB files. Finance is only available to permanent UK residents aged >18, subject to status, terms and conditions apply.Samsung’s 870 EVO delivers much more consistent write performance than the WD Red SA500 and puts the company’s 870 QVO to shame in sustained write workload performance. Power Consumption and Temperature Integrated Power Loss Immunity: Avoid unintended data loss when the power unexpectedly goes out. This built-in feature of our new NAND protects your data swiftly and efficiently, so if your system suddenly shuts down, you keep all your saved work. Start your system in seconds, load files almost instantly, and accelerate the most demanding applications with the Crucial MX500. Our dynamic write acceleration technology uses an adaptable pool of high-speed single-level cell flash memory to generate blistering speeds. The MX500 SSD comes in a silver aluminum enclosure and utilizes the SATA III 6Gbps interface but it is compatible with SATA II and SATA I interfaces, but that means it will work at a reduced speed. Crucial does have the upper hand in price but that's about it. Samsung's 870 EVO SSDs offer much higher write endurance than the MX500 SSDs.
