About this deal

Mia and Finn have embarked on rehabbing a home until several unsettling things are discovered. It turns out that the house has horrible secrets. As a surprise baby adds to the mix, things are on shaky ground with Mia and Finn. In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past. The reason I gave it 4.5 stars (rounded down) was strictly due to the couple things that I felt were unbelievable. I mean the whole story is absolutely CRAZY but was so well written that you just wanted to keep reading, so for that alone it deserves the 4.5 stars!! This is the 3rd book I’ve read by John Marrs and he is a fantastic author!!!!

Mia and Finn are a newly married couple that decide to put all there money into a fixer-upper they have never seen but bought at auction. When they arrive at the property both are worried that they've made a huge mistake but rather than voice their concerns they plaster on fake smiles and move ahead in their commitment. I’ve read many of the author’s books in the past and I knew what to expect in part from him and the way his stories are told and how they make me feel. But this one stepped to a new level and I loved it! My streak of highly anticipated ARCs turning out to be the stankiest dookies of all time continues. So what went wrong? This is John Marrs at his finest and I would say his best book so far. I don’t want to use the obvious phrase ‘twists and turns’ but there were so many that I couldn’t guess what was going to come next. Anyways, I'm going to cut myself off. It's one star. I HIGHLY recommend The Good Samaritan. An absolutely unhinged banger of a psychological thriller. It truly puts the psycho in psychological. Thank you, NEXT.Thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. Set in a near-future Britain where automated driverless cars have replaced traditional vehicles, this enjoyable, if flawed, techno-thriller from Marrs (The One) plunges eight people into a Continue reading »

The only surprise in this book is the authors name. How the same man who wrote The One can write this trash is beyond me.Mia and Finn have bought a house that needs full renovation but repairs are soon curtailed due to a gruesome discovery in the attic. Suffering after a traumatic birth and PTSD, Mia is detached from modern life and becomes obsessed over what she saw. But it seems that what happened in the house may not just be from the past.
