About this deal

It's hard to believe that the original Wharfedale Diamond is now past its thirtieth birthday. All those decades ago, it was the Diamond speaker that proved, for the first time, that excellent quality sound could be achieved from a small, budget speaker. Since then there have been dozens of imitators, but the Diamonds remain amongst the best available. The little (125mm) main driver has a 'skeletal' cast alloy frame, to avoid reflecting the rearward radiation. Diamond 9.1 proves good audio can still be attainable to shoppers on a budget. Found here is a bookshelf speaker. Even if you're tight for cash, impressive sound for a Hi-Fi isn't unattainable. Technophobes Need Not Worry

With a front port, these bass reflex speakers are punchier than you might expect and in no way could they ever be described as tinny. Over all, they may be small but the sound is grown-up, with excellent staging, realism and surprisingly powerful. It has a 100mm diameter cone made from woven Kevlar-in-polymer-matrix, while the tweeter has neodymium magnets and a soft 25mm doped fabric dome diaphragm. Twin terminal pairs are fitted on the rear. A special alloy, cast chassis design is incorporated across all diamond models to virtually eliminate rear wave reflections from the chassis legs. This allows air to move freely through the driver and have a more even frequency response with much lower distortion. Since its creation in 1981, the Wharfedale Diamond range has enjoyed a formidable reputation within the field of two-channel stereo reproduction. Regarded by journalists around the world as the real entry point to hi-fidelity sound reproduction, this has been reinforced by numerous awards and commendations. Small speakers often show a tendency to 'shout', by over-projecting the upper midband and presence zone.

While such character might have initial showroom appeal, it can become wearing after a time and is not what hi-fi ought really to be about. Each component is designed as part of a whole, without a single 'off-the-shelf' part. Every part interacts simply and effectively with the rest, to produce a sound that is detailed, refined and supremely natural. This is certainly true of the enclosure, which has curved sides to add stiffness to the structure and disperse horizontal standing waves and reflections. Twin ports, claimed to reduce distortion by 40 per cent, are fitted into the front panel.

The Wharfedale Diamond range has enjoyed a formidable reputation within the field of two-channel stereo reproduction.

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 26th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The cabinet isn't just compact, it's also very solid. This combination gives the Diamonds an extremely accurate sound quality as the cabinet doesn't flex or vibrate. Equally impressive are the drive units. A soft dome tweeter gives the clarity and smoothness of sound you'd expect from a more expensive speaker, while the woofer cone uses a carbon fibre type weave to offer extremely taut and responsive bass. The Wharfedale 9.0 are small stereo speaker to replace mini/micro system speakers or satellite speaker to use with subwoofer in home cinema systems. Small cuboid enclosure using 100mm bass/mid driver and 25mm silk dome tweeter. Superb imaging is possible and when used with any of the Diamond 9 series subwoofers, the results are spectacular. Ideal when used in a small room home cinema where space is an issue or to replace the speakers supplied with good quality micro systems. Designed to be wall or ceiling mounted. It is very much to the credit of this Wharfedale that it carefully avoids such a pitfall and manages to sound like a genuine 'grown up' hi-fi speaker, despite its very modest price.
