About this deal

TALENT & DIVERSITY We’re growing talent by training, supporting, mentoring and funding the most talented and creative researchers, innovators and leaders from across the engineering profession. We’re developing skills for the future by identifying the challenges of an ever-changing world and developing the skills and approaches we need to build a resilient and diverse engineering profession.

It’s never easy and obviously it’s a really tough market at the moment but adversity often leads to innovation and if you can start up and survive now then you will thrive in the future. Deborah Meaden

The two new guests on Dragons' Den in 2024

First to face the Dragons this week was Scottish entrepreneur Steven Reynolds, pitching a business aimed at encouraging children to get involved in fitness activities.

I learned that if I was to have anything, it wasn’t going to be left for me under the Christmas tree, it was going to be a direct consequence of my own actions.” When he went on Dragons’ Den, Theo Paphitis asked if Levi Roots was his real name and he said no, it’s Keith. It was then that Roots realised the importance of being who you are.The committee published its report on Monday (18 February 2019) into disinformation and fake news in the wake of multiple scandals both in the UK and US where state actors and other well-funded interests skewed the information people see in their social-media applications. Some of the problems stem from the companies putting growth above all other considerations when determining when and how to use personal data and in choosing the kinds of content they promote. Although the companies like to argue they are simply vehicles for others' content, they have to a large extent compromised their own defence by working against their users' interests. Start-up business lesson: While her product tasted good, Shah could have done with stronger branding and a more exciting brand story if she wanted to stand out from her rivals on the supermarket shelves. Here are 5 branding considerations all start-ups should consider. John Kershaw You push the pod into the soil, it will absorb all the moisture and it will direct that to the seed without over watering it because the fibres of the pulp pod can only absorb so much,’ explains Dan. ‘As there’s a maximum level this will prevent it from drowning and it will push the pod open, start to split and the seed will emerge from the middle – this is patented technology so it’s super unique to us and all developed in Newcastle. You’ll then have a nice healthy plant and as the pod breaks down it creates a mulch around the plant which is a micro-fertiliser.’ Robson added: "I've always been a huge fan of Dragons' Den, and after many years of shouting at the TV, my wife convinced me to apply to appear on the programme. Entering the Den is very different to watching it at home; it was by far one of the challenging experiences of my life, but I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Investment from Sara is the absolute dream having witnessed what she has achieved for North East business.

He talks much of the importance of following your internal voice and knowing your purpose, a thread that runs through the work of contemporary self-help gurus, including his most recent podcast guest, Jordan Peterson. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1147635/distribution-of-tiktok-influencer-audience-by-age-and-gender-uk/ [ Do your best with spreading the seeds. It isn't easy to move them once they are on the paper towel. Don't sweat it if they clump too much or are spread too far apart. Finally, the third product (Build & Grow) is a children’s 3D puzzle made from 100 percent FSE-approved card with a small tray which is also made from card but sprayed with a special vegetable wax-based coating to make it hydrophilic. Kids simply build the puzzle, fold the tray into place, fill it with soil and seeds, then wait and they can grow a real garden in their puzzle.I think it's so popular because of the entrepreneurs. Even when you think you have seen it all, you haven't, something or someone amazing could walk through those lift doors at any moment! With 40% of TikTok’s UK audience coming from the Gen Z age group, young people are leading the charge and trying to make a difference to society.3 But Brits of all ages are embracing this resourceful attitude, with a fifth (20%) of people in the UK saying that individuals have more responsibility for supporting sustainable initiatives than corporations or international organisations.4 Entry requirements can be found at www.raeng.org.uk/ned-competition The Royal Academy of Engineering is looking for the ideas and innovations (which exist as either a sketch, prototype or model) that could make our daily lives more sustainable. A sustainable innovation is something that’s making our daily lives function in a less wasteful way – that’s wasteful in terms of energy, finances, resources. It’s something that is designed to make our lives and our impact on the planet better without negatively impacting on people or the planet.

There’s always a lot of competition in the Den…can we expect more sparring amongst the Dragons this series? While Meaden, who did think there was a place for a recognised brand in the supermarket, didn't think it was the right time for it. Deborah Meaden was the last Dragon to air her concerns, simultaneously putting an end to Reynolds' hopes of securing investment: “Expansion for you outside of Scotland is the wrong thing to do. […] I'm out”. London-born and US-based fashion mogul Emma Grede and ex-professional footballer turned businessman extraordinaire Gary Neville, will be joining Dragons’ Den as guest Dragons, sitting alongside Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies and Steven Bartlett for series 21.Ending Statham's time in the den, Meaden declared that she felt he was “in a great position” as the “only person with the solution” but said he should make it a retrofit product, and so declined to invest. Mr Robson, who runs the company with his graphic designer brother Joe, added: “I’ve always been a huge fan of Dragons’ Den, and after many years of shouting at the TV, my wife convinced me to apply to appear on the programme. Entering the Den is very different to watching it at home; it was by far one of the challenging experiences of my life, but I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Investment from Sara is the absolute dream having witnessed what she has achieved for North East business. This week saw one of the show's “most appealing” entrepreneurs secure offers from all five Dragons after a winning pitch for a dating app development company. Though his new-found investors weren’t as proactive as you might expect. “The Dragons didn’t do a lot to help me,” he admits. “Peter Jones made one call – to Sainsbury’s chief, Justin King.” Roots left the kids at home making the sauce. He only had 67 bottles and hoped Justin wouldn’t ask for more than that. He adds that, when brand is powerful, there is nothing more important than outsourcing. If a brand is built well then people want to partner with you. “I couldn’t tell Justin King to wait six months until I built a factory. I outsourced to make 250,000 bottles in record time.” Find your own market
