About this deal

Cutting head. The cutting head is the most important feature on a strimmer. It should be adjustable, so you can change the angle of the cut to cope with inclines and fiddly jobs. In most models, the head turns 90°, so you can trim along the edges of paths and flowerbeds. In the very best models, the cutting head also has wheels to help guide along edges and support the weight of the strimmer. This hybrid tool switches from trimming to wheeled edging by pressing an orange button on the shaft and rotating the head. Use the detachable, in-line wheel to define an edge or store it on the trimmer shaft when not in use.

Hypothetically, you could use a strimmer to cut a lawn, but it would take a long time. Strimmers are much less efficient at this task than lawn mowers, and it’s more difficult to get an even cut. One light is flashing twice per cycle– At least one battery is over-discharged. Please recharge to two batteries at once before use or storage. Line feed and blade replacements. It’s useful if a blade strimmer comes with spare blades, so you don’t run out if one breaks in the middle of a job. You should be able to get a new spool of line for a line strimmer or replace the whole head. With both types it's helpful if the spare blades or line can be stored on the tool. Boring, I know, but the Worx WG184 comes in at about 13 inches. This is right at the bottom of the range for commercial landscapers. While this likely wouldn’t be used in a commercial setting, it’s darn near close. Also, that extensive, 13-inch safety guard enhances the reach of the WG184, allowing it to cut in a 13-inch circle without tossing debris into the air. Two, three, or four green lights illuminated– The two batteries have a remaining charge. The more lights illuminated, the more battery capacity is available Worx has been slowly revamping its 20V line of outdoor power tools with new 40V power supplies. Rather than create a third battery platform (see the Worx 56V string trimmer as an example), the company is taking a cue from Makita 18V X2 tools. The new Worx 40V Trimmer Edger Power Share system uses two 20V 2.0 Ah batteries. The included batteries run in parallel to give the Worx WG184 40 volts of cutting power. The hum of the electric motor sounds much like one of our space heaters, and even the whinging of the string as it whirls about slicing vegetation is acceptable. It’s the smaller touches that make this such an effective tool. The semi-auto line feed does a great job of ensuring that you never have to think about the cutting line during use, while the head rotates for easy edging. There’s also a pull-out plant protector to keep shrubs and tree trunks safe while you’re trimming close around them. It is heavy – a shoulder strap would be appreciated – but if you believe a cordless trimmer can’t match your existing electric or petrol model, the AdvancedGrassCut 36 could surprise you. Working for such clients as Universal Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, NASA, Universal Studios, Planet Hollywood, SEGA, NASCAR, and others, Clint DeBoer dealt extensively with client management as well as film & video editing, color correction, and digital video & MPEG compression. He also carries several THX certifications (Technician I and II, THX Video), and is ISF Level II Certified.

Most cordless strimmers use an 18V-20V battery with a 2Ah to 2.5Ah capacity, which will generally last for around 20 to 30 minutes of use. However, some will also work with other batteries in the same battery ecosystem, giving you the option of a 4Ah or 5Ah battery and a longer running time, albeit with a bit more weight. Dimensions: 65.77 inches (L) by 13.75 inches (W) by 9 inches (H) assembled, plus 13-inch diameter safety guard My favorite feature is the ease with which you initially assemble the edger using just your hands and a Phillips head screwdriver. One screw? I’ve got this! Unlike some of the cheaper models of Worx trimmers like the GT Revolution, this one has a D-grip handle. Now before you make any jokes, this is the same handle that is on commercial trimmers. These aren’t just your straight up-and-down handles, they wrap around the trimmer and allow you to make graceful swoops across areas. Basically it is for people who know what they are doing. That’s a fun activity, and you may find yourself indulging in unnecessary revving the first couple times you use the WG184. I know I did! Pros and ConsThis is a lightweight and powerful cordless strimmer with a telescopic shaft. Even with the large 4.0 Ah battery installed, it weighs just 3 kg, which earns it a BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Best Buy for large areas.

The most unusual feature (though not for Worx) involves pushbutton conversion from trimming to wheeled edging. Clint’s career has covered nearly the entire realm of audio and video production. After graduating at the top of his class with an Associates Degree in Recording Engineering, he began working for the famed Soundelux studios in 1994, one of the largest post-production companies specializing in audio for feature films & television. Working on a myriad of feature films, Clint honed his skills as a dialogue editor, foley editor, and sound designer. Years later, he moved into the expanding area of video editing, where he served as the company’s senior AVID video editor for three years. Now they’ve combined it with a high-power bada** string trimmer. Nobody is ready for this. It’s like Eleven being made in a lab. Truly the best of both worlds. Long! I love it when these have some length to them. Power on the WG184 Another defining “DIY” indicator for this tool has to be the small 13-inch cutting swath. That works to get the job done, but Pros won’t give it a second look. The Worx WG184 uses a snap-in spool that gives you an ample 20 feet of .080-inch spiral line. Worx also includes an adjustable metal spacer guard to help keep line from cutting into sensitive areas such as flower beds, vegetable gardens, tree trunks, and lawn ornaments.A lot to love about the WG184. Worx has a funny way of making products that are super intuitive to use that somehow other brands aren’t doing.

Key specs – Power: 2x 20V 2.0Ah MAX Li-ion battery; Cutting width: 33cm; Line: 2mm; Dimensions (stored): 125 x 28 x 14.5cm; Weight: 3.9kg Need a recap before you reach any conclusions about the WG184? Here’s a summary of the specs for this product:Not much else to say about the durability. It is a relatively simple machine. One thing I will say about the life of this trimmer is that it doesn’t appear to have a brushless motor. Sadly, brushed motors aren’t as durable or long-lasting as brushless motors, which have become the dominant motor type for battery-powered trimmers.
