About this deal

In my opinion, this is an excellent pen for drawing and sketching that offers some wonderful opportunities for adding controlled washes on suitable paper (as long as you’re careful to avoid the lines you want to keep). The Lyra Art pen is available in 36 loose colours includingfluorescent and metallic gold and silver permanent, opaque colours which can beused on dark surfaces . The grip section has a series of ribs the section being quite lengthy so the finger position can move up and down for a more comfy writing position. Although taking this pen apart was quite similar to the Carbon Desk Pen, I had to use a hairdryer and a lot of grip and strength to unscrew the front section of the pen. Too thin for big fingers, too long to be taken seriously, there really is no need, even for an art pen to be so long.

I have marked the experience as 7 as I was not put off and nobody stopped me or moaned when I asked to open the box to look inside. There is no flex obviously, but it provides a smooth flow which is enjoyable for sketching and writing. Artpens are modern fountain pens, but their elegant design preserves the feel and balance of traditional dip pens.

There are 3 pen caps for each of the nibs (although the top of each pen cap specifies the nib size it is to be used for, each pen cap fits all three nibs perfectly well). Also noticed it misuses strokes all the time I have to keep going over my line's also the ink is only water resistant not waterproof big difference paint to close to this ink with say yellow or white and the ink bleeds into the wet paint. And is there a similar pen that is more readily available here in the states theat will perform similarly to this? The Lamys and Schneiders - even the cheapest Chinese - are so very much better there's simply no comparison.

Suddenly, I want to explore hatching and filling everything with these crisp thin lines, slowly building up a texture made of lines as I fill a page.

You can use the Platinum Carbon Ink, but do wash the pen occasionally especially if you're not using it for long periods of time. However, in the last few years I have been totally spoilt by the introduction of new, higher end pens with various gorgeous nibs etc, so armed with this knowledge, I have to (probably quite unfairly) knock a couple of points off. This is how the pen holder looks like on its own (the nib may be removed by unscrewing it from the top of the pen holder).
