About this deal

Above: And now to the corner where the RF is a little sharper, but there’s not much in it. Closing the aperture a stop or two makes them pretty much identical in the corner. Have it and find it impressively sharp. But, mine, and apparently all samples, has extreme zoom creep. I can't point it up or down more than 45° without it slipping, which makes it a PITA to use.

How to calculate 200 divided by 4 - Divisible

Above: For comparison, here’s the older EF 70-200mm f4L again showing its length, further increased by the adapter. Note the looser-feeling zoom ring and the wider manual focusing which is mechanically-linked while also showing focus distance in a window, while the RF lenses display it graphically on-screen. You’ll have to shift it manually as you race if not the shift points will be low. It is also expensive to find one that has been well-built. On the other hand, street use can be optimized with the 700R4 and as such, you’ll need this type for a street-worthy vehicle. 2. Aftermarket Support Telling a 700R4 apart from the 200-4R is thankfully quite easy, and doesn’t require you to look under the hood. The 200-4R comes with a unique-looking 16-bolt transmission pan, much like the 700R4 and 4L60 but completely different in design. The pans on the 700R4 and 4L60 are square, whereas the 200-4R tapers off on one side. The TH350, on the other hand, looks much like the 200-4R but comes with only 13 bolts.

Very true. only a handful of lenses I have do not look sharp on the A7, whilst many of them are just average on the M1... Above: The difference becomes even greater when you fit the adapter required to mount the EF lens on an EOS R body.Note neither of the RF 70-200s are compatible with the RF teleconverters. Similar in build to the TH350, the 200-4R proved to be a great updateto the outdated 3-speed transmission in builds where an overdrive gear was a must. Eventually, in 1990, the 200-4R was phased out for the 700R4, and later iterations of the same transmission including the 4L60 and 4L60-E. Rundown on the Numbers Above: Comparing the far corners and again it’s a very close call. Arguably the RF lens is a fraction sharper, but I wouldn’t complain about the EF performance here, and again if you’re shooting a landscape you could always stop down to f5.6 or f8 to match the quality.

GM 200-4R Transmissions - 2004R Transmissions - Gearstar

Above: More importantly if you look closer, you’ll see the RF lens is much sharper at its closest focusing distance than the EF model, especially at the edges, so in terms of quality at close range it represents an upgrade, but don’t expect much or even any difference in magnification at their respective closest distances. Because of the similarities in both the size and design of the 200-4R and the TH350, the 200-4R offers a much simpler update to a 4-speed overdrive transmission in your older car than the 700R4 does. Why Choose the 200-4R Transmission?

Above: So far so similar, but unlike the internal zoom on the EF model in the middle, the two RF lenses flanking it employ extending barrels which retract when zoomed to 70mm. So with all three lenses now set to 70mm, notice how the two RF lenses have shrunk considerably, compared to the older EF lens which has of course stayed exactly the same size.
