About this deal

wow, I was surprised to find how much this book kept me guessing, that first I was thinking this was just a kids book with some mystery but it kept me reading all day turning the pages of Butterfly Summer and try and figure out the truths behind the lies. Anne-Marie Conway is a primary school teacher specialising in drama, but also runs her own children’s theatre company, Full Circle. Nina is such an interesting character that, by contrast, the snippets (rather extensive ones) about Teddy’s past were difficult to plow through. They are also important indicators of a healthy ecosystem and provide valuable environmental benefits such as pest control and pollination.

I’m bored is one of the most dreaded phrases for a Mum to hear – don’t get me wrong it’s good for the kids to be bored they can get creative but when they’ve done everything (or so the house looks like! He was also funny, down to earth, and so carefree, like he knew that every problem in the world could be solved.Nina’s story didn’t grip me where as Teddy had many layers to be unfolded and I just wanted to read more and more of her and the people she meets and why she acted in the ways she did.

Butterfly Summer by Anne-Marie Conway - review - The Guardian

This butterfly has spread northwards in recent decades to colonise East Anglia, the Midlands and almost all of northern England in response to climate change. This minestrone was a disaster from start to finish, with the wrong ingredients chuck together with no care and the wrong seasoning to complete the spoiling of it. I had actually guessed the answer to one of the mysteries before unravelling it, and was indeed spot on about it, which is just a wonderful feeling when you are reading a book and then suddenly you have this amazing realization come to mind, that is a real sign of a truly amazing book! She proved to be a godsend to the exhausted Deliah and she helped to bring Nina up, like a real life fairy godmother she shared their lives until she died when Nina was 25.

I didn’t know the London Riots were going to be in the book but it was interesting to read about it. I also felt as though the ending itself could have continued on in another manner – by that I would have liked to see what happened when the main character, Becky, went on to finally meet her father. Holly Blues may be hard to spot as they are mostly arboreal, only descending to feed on flowering plants such as Ivy.
