About this deal

Fortunately, LG offers a Cinematic Movement setting – the most effective motion-compensated frame interpolation among different TV brands – to mitigate these issues without introducing significant interpolation artefacts or the unnaturally smooth soap opera effect (SOE). That said, when watching 50Hz broadcast material, you’re best off disabling TruMotion altogether. With it active, there were occasions when I noticed visible microstuttering during hand gestures and facial movements, and frame skipping in slow-panning shots, particularly on stronger motion settings.

LG G3 OLED review: An early contender for TV of the year LG G3 OLED review: An early contender for TV of the year

While it's still technically just 'another OLED TV' and we have no idea how much further LG might be able to go with its new MLA twist, the simple fact is that watching the OLED65G3 feels like you've stumbled upon a completely new technology. Helped by the new Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor, the LG G3’s video processing is excellent. Its upscaling algorithm retrieves sharp details from lower-resolution content, providing an impressive viewing experience for various types of media. Video-mode and film-mode deinterlacing were top-notch without any notable errors to report. Ikea’s air-purifying table clears your air and your clutter, and it's my new favorite smart home gadget

From the rear view, the OLED65G3 is uniformly flat to sit flush against a wall. Connections are both side and downward facing, positioned on the left-hand side (as you look at the TV). There are clips to slide cables through to keep the rear area free and navigate out the bottom of the TV. Assuming the G3 does not come with a stand, wondering what G1 or G2 owners did while they wait to mount their TVs. The LG stand is quite expensive, and also has an upward tilt that won't work for me. There is also eARC for soundbars (HDMI 2), allowing the LG G3 to pass-through high-quality sound like Dolby Atmos to a compatible soundbar. The OLED65G3 also supports Atmos, generating a virtual 9.1.2 upmix in its AI Sound Pro mode but more on that in the audio section. In terms of native 10-bit gradation, there was some posterisation in the skies of The Martian, but I was able to suppress it effectively by using the Smooth Gradation de-contouring filter. I wouldn’t advise going higher than the least aggressive setting of “Low”, however, as the “Medium” and “High” scrubbed away some fine detail. LG G3 OLED review: HDR performance

modes (Personalised Picture Wizard, Vivid, Standard, Eco, Cinema, Sports, Game, Filmmaker, (ISF)Expert(Bright Room), (ISF)Expert(Dark Room)) The C-series and G-series differ in that the latter comes with a bigger boost in the picture and audio departments, as well as boasting the new Micro Lens Array panel developed by LG Display.

The LG G3 is brighter and smarter than its 2022 predecessor and one of the best OLED TVs we’ve ever laid eyes on

This is actually a pretty huge development, as it chops away hard at the old 'LED is for bright rooms, OLED is for dark rooms' adage. In fact, the OLED65G3’s pictures even remain punchy and enjoyable with the TV placed in front of a set of patio doors on a bright, sunny day. The LG G3 boasts a premium design, a slim profile and a minimalistic appearance. The 65in model I’m reviewing here measures 1,441 x 24 x 826mm (WDH) and weighs 23.9kg. As well as transforming what we can now expect WOLED TVs to be capable of with HDR content, the G3's mind-boggling brightness and unexpected colour enhancements suddenly make OLED a vastly more engaging bright room technology than it ever has been before. That 70% figure is compared to traditional OLED as used in the LG B3 – the screens LG was putting in flagship TVs about 3 years ago – so it’s not quite as drastic as it sounds. But given OLED’s notoriously limited brightness, any ground gained on this front is welcomed. We test every television we review thoroughly over an extended period of time. We use industry standard tests to compare features properly. We’ll always tell you what we find. We never, ever, accept money to review a product.

OLED image retention can be managed with the Screensaver mode (leaves no static images on the screen), Screen Move (which shifts pixels slightly), and Logo Brightness (which reduces how bright static logos on a screen are). Turn the TV on for the first time and it’ll boot in Auto Power mode to conserve energy. This can be changed at any time. Picture Quality It does, to my eyes, still feature a little green tint in places but not as much as it did before. The audio performance disappoints, and this being LG’s flagship OLED, I’d have expected better. This streamlined feature allows for easy adjustments of volume, brightness, picture mode and other common settings, making it more convenient to fine-tune your viewing experience. This new panel doesn’t just intend to break through the brightness ceiling that’s hampered OLED TVs, but smash through it, competing with Samsung’s QD-OLED technology. Availability It’s worth noting that both the MZ2000 and OLED+908 are unlikely to be available until the autumn, by which time the LG G3 will probably have seen some form of discount to make it a more appealing value-for-money proposition. LG G3 OLED review: Design, connections and controlHowever, it's the way the G3's new brightness combines with wildly better colours without doing any damage whatsoever to OLED's traditional strengths that really seals the deal.

There were no other steps to get it up and running, I just switched on the set once plugged into power and was greeted with a bright setup walkthrough, which felt somewhat invasive with all its questions, but this seems increasingly standard with smart TVs. Sony’s most advanced 4K OLED, the A95L, also uses a QD-OLED panel but has no firm release date at present and the Japanese manufacturer is yet to reveal pricing for each of the 55in, 65in and 77in models. Two other leading brands – Panasonic and Philips – will bring MLA OLEDs to market this year. The former revealed the MZ2000 at CES in January, while an early build of the flagship Philips OLED+908 was showcased at TP Vision’s annual event in Amsterdam in February. On the upside, the new virtual 9.1.2 mixing system and built-in Dolby Atmos decoding manage to create a sense of the soundstage not just spreading well beyond the edges of the TV (up as well as to left and right), but also actually wrapping around the sides of your seating position. Even in our wildest dreams we hadn’t imagined that the LG OLED65G3 would turn out as well as it has. The headline-grabbing brightness increase lives up to the hype, adding even more impact to real world pictures than our already unprecedented test signal measurements had led us to expect. The extent to which this makes OLED suddenly an option for bright as well as dark rooms can’t be overstated, either. One notable addition is support for different user profiles, allowing multiple users to have personalised settings and preferences for content recommendations, apps and more. This improvement makes it easier for family members to enjoy a tailored viewing experience on a shared TV.
