About this deal

Bought this on a whim after looking at the notes I was not sold however, my friend who also loves fragrances says it’s actually quite nice. So I did buy it on the basis of if I don’t like it, it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t cost a lot. Whenever you feel like wearing a powerfull Oud fragrance, but want it well behaved and not disturbing your fellow common wearer and lover of citrus scents, you may well elect Ameer Al Oudh as one of your favourites fragrances. Opens with a huge blast of harsh alcohol, never a concern to me though as it dissipates soon enough. There is undoubtedly a strong chemical solvent smell that lingers after the opening, it’s something I enjoy to be fair but would easily be hated by some. Sits roughly in the territory of the plastic/vinyl note I get from Kenzo pour homme, where as the Kenzo is like a cheap pool inflatable, the Ameer almost reminds me of a softer whiff of diethyl ether perhaps. I was hoping for (chasing) an oud with strong medicinal (or band aid) qualities, after recently falling in love with Guilty Absolute Pour Homme. I get a hint of it but not nearly enough to meet my craving. There is a pretty mellow sour oud, with (slightly charred) sugary vanilla and little else to my nose.

So to me, this is very sexy I think it reminds me of by the fire place it’s a warm fragrance and would do fantastically in the winter or even autumn the dry down is absolutely stunning. It reminds me of a brown sugar melted in a pan. I get almost an alcoholic cognac type of note in here I can see why this gives some people BR540 vibes because it shares that same antiseptic, hospital vibe. I’ve no desire to wear this and I’m not sure I’d like it on my husband either! Thankfully it was a cheapy so not a huge loss, but I’m a bit sad that it’s so often compared to by the fireplace because I think that’s misleading. Bought this for it’s supposed By The Fireplace resemblance, but BTF is it not :( Maybe I need to let my bottle sit for a few weeks, but first impressions have left me disappointed yet again with this blind buy. Yes, when it arrived and I did my blind buy first spray - I was turned off and told my boyfriend I'm giving it to him.

That said, BTF is one of the highest quality designers I've smelled out there, and while AAO can't meet that bar, it does smell verry verry pleasant. Good quality too, it certainly smells upper tier designer in smell. I was really pleasantly surprised by this. Also projects and performs pretty good too. Now, 24 hours after a single spray application, it still lingers as a skin scent. My only real gripe is that into the dry down I start to smell a kind of "plastic" note. Something to do with the synthetic oudh. It's weird... it somehow reminds me a little of cinnamon. Anyway, for the price it's hard to complain. Also, in the box I got a deodorant spray labeled as "MAGIE NOIRE". It has nothing to do with Lancome Magie Noire. ;-) I love Khamrah, but it gets annoying after a while; opens so nice but eventually gets too powdery and feminine on my skin. Today it’s freezing and snowing in England and I was going out and needed to walk a mile or 2 and I was looking for a scent to spray and my eyes went to this so o thought I’d give it another chance and sprayed 8 sprays on body and clothes .

Now, when *I* say a fragrance lasts into eternity that's definitely of note. As a rule perfumes never last long on my skin. 30 minutes isn't an exception. When I pass a 3hr mark that's cause for celebration. My skin is of the very dry, perfume eating variety that loves to boost woody, leathery, earthy, spicy and citrusy notes and prefers to ignore sweet, fruity, floral etc (no mature perfume is ever too sweet on me). TOP NOTES And oh boy does this develop! Like 15 minutes later I started getting the AMAZING woody sauna notes. It is such a gem! And it gets really close to By The Fireplace! I probably would not tell the difference with those two side by side! So if u can just ignore the opening of this fragrance (it's very ambery strong and something a little weird, reminded me of Bentley Intense lmao) then I 100% recommend atleast trying it. I'm legit getting hungry, like when walking through the mall and smelling those candied almonds or fried donuts. 😁 This fragrance from far away hits my nose similarly.

A lad in my pool team asked me what I was wearing as he liked it, next week he came in wearing it, or at least I thought. He'd bought this stuff. Not quite as smoky as By The Fireplace, and much sweeter, has a real golden syrup vibe to it. The opening is spicier too, then it dries down to the BTF scent. An oriental wood sandalwood-oud combo with a synthetic general woodiness, a very sweet opening and a creamy vanilla throughout. This is thankfully in my opinion not potentially cloying like it, but I find it even sweeter than Joop Homme, so know that if you tend to get nauseous or dizzy by overly sweet fragrances. This smells like you could drink it.
