Genetic origin of cultivated citrus determined: Researchers find evidence of origins of orange, lime, lemon, grapefruit, other citrus species", Science Daily, January 26, 2011 (Retrieved February 10, 2017). The lemon tree produces drupes which are kind of like berries but with more than one seed inside of them. Botanists also consider these to be plant parts rather than actual fruits. However, normal everyday people do not think of a berry as a plant part so you could say that lemons are really fruits. She has a degree (how is this "above her station"?) and goes flatting, which is normal considering the parents brought her up as English and not Jamaican.

Levy began writing in her mid-30s, after her father died. It was not a therapeutic attempt to deal with her loss, but rather a need to understand where she came from. [14] In 1989, she enrolled in Alison Fell's Creative Writing class at the City Lit, continuing with the course for seven years. [15] Levy's fifth and final novel, The Long Song, won the 2011 Walter Scott Prize [26] and was shortlisted for the 2010 Man Booker Prize. [27] The Daily Telegraph called it a "sensational novel". [28] Kate Kellaway in The Observer commented: " The Long Song reads with the sort of ebullient effortlessness that can only be won by hard work." [29] The novel was adapted as a three-part BBC One television series that was broadcast in December 2018. [30] [31] In November 2020 it was announced that Levy would be the first writer of colour whose pen would join the Royal Society of Literature's historic collection, which includes pens belonging to George Eliot and Lord Byron. This means that technically you cannot call something that grows from a plant a fruit because it didn’t come from the female side of the reproduction process. Lemon juice is not part of cancer treatment. But scientists have found tiny nanoparticles in lemon juice that – in lab tests on cells – inhibited cell reproduction and activated cancer cell death. This is extremely early research that’s more about searching for new cancer treatments and isn’t based on the lemon juice you’d get in your diet.

Lemons 101: Nutrition Facts and Health Benefits

Fruit of the Lemon falls into two neat halves — the first dealing with Faith’s growing disorientation in her native England, the second chronicling her slow regaining of confidence in Jamaica. The book would be almost too neat, too schematic, if it weren’t for the ambiguities that Levy weaves into both sections. Lemons will start to sour when they become unripe; similarly, they stop being sweet once they become ripe (and may even begin to taste bitter). At her parents' suggestion, in the hope it will help her to understand where she comes from, Faith goes to Jamaica for the first time. There she meets her Aunt Coral, whose storytelling provides Faith with ancestors, whose lives reach from Cuba and Panama to Harlem and Scotland. Branch by branch, story by story, Faith scales the family tree, and discovers her own vibrant heritage, which is far richer and wilder than she could have imagined.
