About this deal

Battlestar Galactica': Remastered (HD, 6 min.) – Sadly, this is the only brand-new bonus feature on this entire release. However, it does give a nice behind-the-scenes look at how the series was updated to widescreen for the 'next generation' of viewers. (Note: This bonus feature only appears on Disc 6 of the widescreen original series set – it does not appear on Disc 6 of the full frame version.) Season Four Sneak Peek and Season Four Trailer (SD, 3 minutes) – Snippets promoting the fourth season. English, French, Italian, Spanish (Castilian), Spanish (Latin), Brazilian, and Portuguese DTS Digital Surround 2.0 (Galactica 1980 Full Frame Episodes) Audio Commentary: 'Taking a Break from All Your Worries' (Disc 4) – Commentary with Ronald D. Moore.

The Oracle shows up again, but is this time joined by Battlestar Actual a bibliography of the technical terms used. English SDH, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish (Castilian), Spanish (Latin), Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Japanese, Brazilian, Portuguese (Full Frame Episodes) The series is heavy on dialogue, and Universal has done a great job making it clear and well-prioritized. Sometimes it can still sound a bit distant and constrained, but that's just a very minor quibble and it doesn't really detract from the experience. Deleted Scenes (SD, Disc 5, 8 minutes) – Deleted scenes from episodes 'The Son Also Rises,' and 'Crossroads: Parts 1 & 2.' Sketches and Art (SD, 4 minutes) – A concept art, paintings, and costume photo slideshow set to music from the show.Audio Commentary on Saga of a Star World (aka Pilot) with Actors Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Herbert Jefferson, Jr.: The three actors reminisce about shooting the pilot and working on the series. And even though Galactica 1980 was cheesy and not even close to the awesomeness of the original it was still enjoyable viewing it especially since I haven’t seen it in many years.

Working in tandem with the above feature and again hosted by McCreary we are introduced to various musicians and the specialist instruments they play, that help to give BSG its unique sounding score and trace his cues from their very humble beginnings to the full on orchestral productions with particular emphasis on the finale score. Another extremely entertaining feature. Inside 'Battlestar Galactica': The Cylons (SD, 5 min.) – Members of the cast and crew talk about those walking toasters and how difficult filming often proved. (Ported over from the 2003 DVD release.) Caprica Sneak Peek (SD, Disc 2, 2 minutes) – A preview for the upcoming 'Battlestar Galactica' prequel spinoff series 'Caprica.' A spoof type featurette hosted by composer Bear McCreary, of all the great stuff on show, this has to be the worst.

Sometime in their history, a civilized planetary system consisting of a dozen tribes of humanity known as the Twelve Colonies of Kobol created a race of sentient robotic beings they called Cylons. The Cylons were built to make the humans' lives easier, but one day the machines had enough of slavery and rebelled against their masters. The uprising escalated into a war and then suddenly -- the Cylons vanished without a trace. On the extended version only is supplied by Moore and writer Michael Taylor. Everything I've said before applies once again. Production (SD, 9 minutes) – A brief production vignette covering filming in high-definition, the sets, make-up, and more. The Doctor is Out (Of His Mind) (SD, 8 minutes) – All about the good Dr. Baltar played by James Callis. Battlestar Galactica': Remastered (HD, 6 min.) – Sadly, this is the only brand-new bonus feature on this entire release. However, it does give a nice behind-the-scenes look at how the series is being updated to widescreen for the 'next generation' of viewers.

All ten webisodes are included here and together they fill in some of the gaps between season Two and Three concentrating, not surprisingly, on the Resistances' exploits. A widescreen remaster of Battlestar Galactica is something that some fans have wanted for a while now. Like their Star Trek brethren, people are absolutely positive that it can, and should be done, and that the purists are just holding out on them. But unlike Star Trek: TNG, with its plethora of light stands, crew members and other flotsam floating just out of frame, there are at least parts of Battlestar that were always intended to be widescreen. In the 1970s and 80s, it was fairly common for broadcast pilots, miniseries, and 2-part episodes to be repurposed for theatrical release overseas. Until very late in the game, the original plan for Galactica was for it to be a series of 4 TV movies, which later became the pilot, Lost Planet of the Gods, Gun on Ice Planet Zero, and War of the Gods. All of which were planned and shot (or at least protected for) 1.85:1. But this unfortunately is part of what makes this widescreen version such a mixed bag when compared to its 4:3 counterparts – the rest of the episodes weren’t planned for widescreen in this way. The Journey Ends: The Arrival (HD, Disc 1, 13 minutes) – The cast and crew say goodbye to one of the best series ever produced on television. Once again I've put these two together. As before Moore is on hand to provide insight and thought on his precious show, very easy to listen to as he piles on the information both negative and positive. The second disc of the season he is joined by a number of other participants that, again, make for informative and enjoyable listens, the list is: Faith - Moore, producers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle; Guess What's Coming to Dinner - Moore and writer Michael Angeli; Sine Qua Non - Moore and writer Michael Taylor; The Hub - Moore, co-executive producer Jane Espenson, editor Michael O'Halloran and supervising editor Andrew Seklir; Revelations - Moore, Weddle, Thompson and editor Julius Ramsay.

Cylons: The Twelve (SD, Disc 2, 16 minutes) – Just a teaser for the final ten episodes of the series. Playable as individual titles or with a convenient play all functionality running for a combined time of about 63 minutes, each one looks at an aspect of the making of the miniseries; the titles nicely sum up what each segment is about - From Miniseries to series (8'27''), Change Is Good, Now They're Babes (7'29''), The Cylon Centurion (5'26''), Future/Past Technology (7'38''), The Doctor Is Out Of His Mind (7'38''), Production (9'04''), Visual Effects, Epilogue. Taken as a whole this is a pretty comprehensive making of with plenty or detail on everything you need to know about the series from its conception through to its completion. Plenty of in depth interviews conducted with cast and crew give plenty of information about this excellent start to the series.
