In all fairness, it’s becoming impossible to see her only once – if there’s a festival, she’s there! Emerging in the late Nineties, Theaudience were nominated for Best New Band at the NME Awards, but were unceremoniously dropped by their label following their one and only album.

Ellis-Bextor also did a Christmas special and a further series of shows for the early 2021 lockdown. The 2023 tour, which kicks off in Bexhill, before heading all around the country including a date at the London Eventim Apollo, will feature hits from throughout Sophie’s career, as well as some very festive classics, all in Sophie’s own seasonal disco style. Her husband – The Feeling bassist Richard Jones – could occasionally be spotted dancing around in a horse mask. It features singles from all her studio albums: Read My Lips (2001), Shoot from the Hip (2003), Trip the Light Fantastic (2007), Make a Scene (2011), Wanderlust (2014) and Familia (2016), as well as a number of cover versions of songs by other artists. For Ellis-Bextor, this manifested in 2014’s strange and wiry Wonderlust; a concept-heavy album that took influence from the Slavic folklore figure Baba Yaga.

Beneath the dark, looming clouds of Everything is Sweet, sawtooth synthesisers grind and squelch; Kitchen Disco this certainly is not. There were tearful scenes as Sophie's husband Richard Jones, mum Janet Ellis, and her children all bundled into the kitchen to dance with Sophie for the final twenty minutes of her epic Danceathon while Pudsey boogied on the screen behind her. It consists primarily of orchestral versions of 15 of her solo singles, and a new track, a cover of Carol Williams's "Love Is You".Oh I wasn’t supposed to come, but it happened that the fates, they had their fun,” she sings, following his imagined footsteps down brand new streets.
