About this deal

After having launched the HD800S and the new HE-1 headphone, Sennheiser decided it was time to update the existing 5XX product line, of which the iconic HD598 is part of. The new HD598 is called the HD599 and that means it’s closer to the HD600, in more ways than you can think. I tried them while gaming as well and found the same issue I had with music listening were present there as well. Not clear enough to be a satisfying gaming headset for me. I've been using them on and off with the 598CS and man the 599 is far superior in every single aspect. Even the bass is much better defined on the 599, it goes deeper and is also faster and more precise with no "boom" whatsoever, that's pretty odd for open headphones compared to closed ones! They're also clearer despite this, I mean it, the sound is crystal clear and the soundstage is immense compared to closed cans. At only 50 ohms and 106 db/ 1 V RMS, the HD 599 se doesn't seem hard to power at first glance. Unfortunately, they requiere you to have a good-great headphone output, connecting it to a cheap laptop or phone 3.5 port is a mediocre experience. Any dongle Dac would be just fine, DON'T BUY A HEADPHONE AMP. What seems to change for the most part is detail and bass control.

Sennheiser HD 599 review - SoundGuys

In fact we have a pair of HD 599 demo unit in our office which, in my opinion, sounds slightly better than the HD 598. I can say that the sound signature of the HD 599 is the same, if not better, than the HD 598. Do keep in mind that due to burn-in and HD 598 will initially sound different than brand new HD 599. But if both are brand new, then they will sound very similar." P.S. I've noticed that the 598 sounds bit darker on my onboard compared to AMP, so that also could be the case for not having an amp. I don't know what Sennheiser was trying to achieve here. Low midrange is accentuated making male vocals and guitars louder, while high midrange is recessed. This is pretty evident with good records where the voice is not mastered very loud. Detail is just average. According to the company, this headphone has been designed to give the listener some home theatre level voice quality with many comforts. The large ear cups with soft and replaceable ear pads provide the user with immense comfort and an exceptional sound experience. Listened on: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 with Peace APO tuned to Harman Target, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with Wavelet with AutoEQ and limiter on, wired with apple dongleWhen it comes to headphones and other music hearing aids, one name shines above all, and that is Sennheiser. Sennheiser has been delivering quality-grade products since 1960 when it first launches the MD421. The company delivers the true sense of German engineering in its products.

Sennheiser HD 599 review - Which?

In 1960 Sennheiser presented the MD421 to the world and it put the Sennheiser name on the map. Four years later Sennheiser created their first headphone, the HD414. I’m sure you’ve seen it before as it is very easy to remember with the yellow colored pads. Sennheiser produced it for 15 years and sold over 10 million units which is extremely impressive. They patented the open ear design for 25 years. Sennheiser employs 1300 people in Germany (of which 400 are in production) and 2800 people worldwide. Disclaimer: The Sennheiser HD599 was sent to us on loan by Sennheiser’s PR agency. It will already have been returned when this review is published. As successor to our popular HD 500 series, the Sennheiser HD 5 model range offers high quality and value in any aspect. Powered by Sennheiser’s proprietary transducer technology including the “Ergonomic acoustic refinement” (E.A.R.) design, which channels the audio signal directly into your ears. Featuring a contemporary design that is both attractive and ergonomic. A real treat for all, who listen to their music with a sense of discovery. On "Don't Drift...", they're essential to the openness of the song. It sounds very spacious in there and you're relaxed. However, it can be a bit overpowering there as sometimes it can distract you from the detail, but more often than not, you will feel relaxed and happy with this mid-bass open on this song. On classical same story. A point of disadvantage with the design is that it does not come with any sound control. You won’t be able to control the volume just with the headphones. You will have to use the device it is connected to. But this disadvantage can be easily overlooked. The amazing amp experience that comes with this headphone will help you enhance the quality of music. Feel and comfortBut i had only 200Eur budget for next upgrade so i got the HE4XX instead of 6XX and i totally don't regret it, they're clearly level above the 598 ( maybe they're even better than 6XX especially for gaming ). When I listened to RapCaviar though, it becomes the Achille's heel of these headphones. It detracts from the vocals rappin out and overpowers the song along with the Lower-bass. Lower bass is good itself, but if combined with this part of the frequency it just detracts from the song entirely. The flexibility of the headphone is yet another outstanding feature of this product. It is much more flexible than any of the higher-end models, and you can use it as roughly as possible. The promise of German engineering is very well delivered by Sennheiser in this headphone. Other features and Price

Without too much emphasis/deemphasizing the mid bass, the frequencies of the sound profile are excellent. If you look at the specifications of this amazing headphone, you will be amazed at what the company has to offer. It comes with a frequency range of 12 to 38,500 Hz, which is truly spectacular. You can vary the sound quality to ample highs and lows for any type of music you feel charmed with. Don't give up on your HD600 for gaming just yet. A headphone doesn't need to be 'designed for gaming'. If you read such a thing that is pretty much marketing. If an even-to-flat sound is your cup of tea, though, you’re better off opting for the slightly more-expensive HD 600 – for a clinical sound, the 600 reigns supreme.I also found out you can put the 598CS pads on the 599, this makes the sound closer and bass heavy, on the other hand the 599 pads on the 598CS makes the sound super tinny and just awful. I think the 599 is basically a perfect headphone, for my taste as is, I don't even need to EQ the bass unless I'm listening to literal basshead stuff. I wish I could try the HD600 "to see what lies beyond that" but I can't afford them. Fit and Comfort: Very comfortable. Most importantly, it is lightweight and has good padding on the headband. I can wear these for hours without top of the head pain - not something I can say with the HD 600. The earpads make an annoying scratchy noise with my plastic glasses frame - so I take my glasses off when wearing them. Would have been an immediate return in the past for this - fortunately I had eye surgery and wear glasses just to look smart. Very good for long gaming sessions. Also what do you dislike about them? For me the 598 was quite decent and had that nice sound profile where everything is almost perfect and well balanced. Sennheiser’s Marketing Dpt says the following: “The new HD 500 range has been refreshed with Sennheiser’s elegant contemporary design language, which discretely communicates refinement, purpose and exceptional build quality. The HD 599 features subtle premium design cues that reveal their superior performance at a glance. The HD 599 combines a timeless ivory color scheme with a headband finished with brown stitching which, with the matte metallic detailing on the ear cups and headband, create an immediate impression of substance and quality”.

The HD599 – according to Sennheiser – lets the listener enjoy their choice of home entertainment with exceptional wearing comfort assured, thanks to the large ear cups and soft, replaceable ear pads. Created with Sennheiser’s “Ergonomic acoustic refinement” (E.A.R.) technology, the headphones have been designed to more effectively channel the audio signal directly into the ears of the listener for a more satisfying listening experience. Offering a step into the world of audiophile sound, the HD599 is a premium headphone for those seeking sophisticated sound, design and build quality. The top-of-the-range model impresses with a natural spatial performance. It's a necessary evil, where it overpowers the song but also contributes to the airiness and openness of the song itself. The sound quality of this headphone is quite smooth and engaging. You will feel every note reaching you and delivering the melody in an outstandingly pure form. The sound delivered has a natural feel to it and provides a unique warmth to the listener. This is the perfect headphone for an audiophile and one wanting to step onto the path of becoming one. The HD599 has an Impedance of 50 Ω, and not the iconic 300Ohm of the audiophile level units. Its frequency response is 12- 38,500 Hz, the sound pressure level (SPL) is 106dBSPL (1kHz/1Vrms) and THD, total harmonic distortion is <0.1% (1kHz, 100dBSPL). You want to treat your ears to audiophile sound quality? This is the Sennheiser HD 5 model for you. With an impressively refined and natural sound and an uncompromising build. You’ve reached your goal. When you look at the HD599’s press material you immediately notice this headphone is branded as a top of the line “do-it-all” headphone for watching movies and for listening to music and basically anything that can be done with a headphone. The HD6XX and all the higher end models are marketed as pure audiophile headphones for music listening. It has a timeless ivory color that is pretty basic and common with the Sennheiser product range. If you are not a fan of this color, you might want to reconsider as it is the only color this headphone comes in. It has a pretty solid and quality built that promises durability and longevity. The company has presented its most contemporary and modern designs in the form of this headphone. It speaks volumes when it comes to communicating enhancement, purpose, and an exceptionally good built. There are subtility and intricacies in its design that will reflect the superiority in performance just by the look of it. According to Sennheiser the HD 599 is your first step into the world of audiophile sound and I couldn’t agree more. It’s smooth, easy to like and listen to but you also get good detail and depth resulting in a musical and natural sound. It has a very appealing and aesthetic look that will blend well with your fashion sense. Be it a chic look or a funky tomboy, and this headphone is a great pair for all your moods.
