About this deal

There is a great selection of places to eat in Tetbury, from bistro cafés to pubs and restaurants. Casa is pipped as Tetbury’s best Italian, serving a wonderful selection of authentic Italian favourites – from pizza and pasta to tiramisu and pannacotta – within its tastefully decorated restaurant. Situated on Long Street, this surprisingly spacious restaurant has a menu to suit all.

Tetbury was one of those stations that were closed in the 1960s. However, instead of tearing down the old station it sat abandoned in the same spot for years. There is always something interesting happening here, so make sure to pop along and see what you can find. Pemulwuy (c.1750–1802), Aboriginal warrior, was born near what was later named Botany Bay, on the northern side of the Georges River, New South Wales. His name (also spelt as Pemulwhy, Pemulwoy or other variations) was derived from the Darug (Dharug) word pemul, meaning earth. Europeans also rendered his name as 'Bimblewove' and 'Bumbleway'. He spoke a dialect of the Darug language and had a blemish in his left eye. According to Colebe, his left foot had been clubbed, suggesting he was a carradhy (clever man). In December 1790 Pemulwuy speared John McIntyre, Governor Phillip's gamekeeper, who later died of the wound. The spear was barbed with small pieces of red stone, confirming that Pemulwuy belonged to one of the 'woods tribes' or Bediagal (Bidjigal) clan. Also in the 18th century the Horners started to build and extend Mells Park; the present Reading Room (which had been an inn, The Bull, from at least the 15th century) was turned into a Magistrate’s Court. Tetbury is known for its Royal connections, with both Prince Charles and Princess Anne living nearby.
