These are: Dense Graded asphalt (DGA); Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) and Open Graded Asphalt (OGA). Not all stones are suitable for Easihold application. Stones between 4mm (0.16") and 10mm (0.39") in diameter work best, but even stones up to 15mm (0.59") can work well if angular and clean. SUDwell™ Pour on Gravel Resin is a completly inert material once cured, with no negative impact to surrounding areas. This is a Non UV Stable polyurethane resin used in both resin bound and bonded applications. It will be affected by sunlight by changing the color to a darker shade and is typically used for darker aggregates or for non-decorative applications. It is also less expensive than the Aliphatic UV Stable Resin. Resin-bonded systems can be used on existing or new bases. Usually, the surfaces are tarmac, concrete, asphalt, or other singular stone material as long as it has been cleaned including the removal of loose materials and dust and then properly prepared. If needed use a sealant if necessary to ensure the resin will adhere to the base. Any remaining contaminants such as oil, film algae or fungus will have to be removed with a good degreaser. Costs are always difficult to obtain and compare. Evidence to date in both the United States and Australia shows that the initial costs of SMA are 20-40% higher than conventional dense graded asphalt in place in road applications. To determine whether SMA is more cost effective than conventional dense graded asphalt surfacing, whole of life or annualized cash flow techniques are used. These techniques take into account the higher initial cost of SMA (20-40% higher than conventional dense graded asphalt in place in road applications) and the longer life expectancy of SMA. The one main consideration with this method, and all methods of application of Easihold is over saturation. Easihold is air drying - application of excessive amounts of Easihold will leave the surface wet and unbonded.
