About this deal

The higher defense dice mean it’s usually easier to press up the field than with Rebels, and can be more forgiving if you’re caught out in the open. Suppression tends to surround a lot of your units, as many of your units have access to give out suppression (Fear will keep the systems in line, after all) but also cause suppression on your own men to compel them to act. Without careful management this can cause them to be unable to act, or run away entirely, so watch out!

The movement markers help remove some ambiguity from simply measuring from base to base. On a basic infantry model, you can move as freely as you can in most war games, the movement markers are pretty flexible. Vehicles have notched bases however, which you can only move when the movement marker is placed inside this notch. Otherwise, movement is pretty simple: place the marker against the base, adjust it to your desired destination and place the model at the other end. They don’t have to move the full amount if you don’t want to. You can find lots of great hobby supplies on our store, including paints, paint brushes, basing materials, and more. Assembly tips

Command Phase

Base coat with tan. I used Desert Tan from Vallejo. Analogous choices would be Zandri Dust from GW or Arid Earth from Army Painter. I really dig how posable the B1 kits are. I come from a long history of playing Warhammer 40k, and when I first got into Legion the mono-pose nature of the core set models was really off-putting to me. Now you can have 50 droids and they can all be posed a little differently. Excellent turn system: The activation system is one of the best I’ve played in a wargame. The alternating activation and command card priority mean you have a lot of control over how your turn is going to play out. It’s simple to learn but difficult to master. If you know a lot about your opponent’s army you can often guess what card they might use and play something that will allow you to go first. Fantasy Flight loves their proprietary stuff and this is no different. You need these tools to play, and they come in the Core boxes but are also sold separately. Range Rulers

That said, the assembly difficulty is definitely something of a step up from the mono-pose PVC models. Customization comes with a price. The difficulty still pales in comparison to most GW kits, but if you aren’t used to sprues it can certainly be a challenge.

Activation Phase

The two players then look at how many units they can activate, and each player designates those units on the battlefield that are within range 1-3 of the commander, and that have not already been activated. A token is placed beside the models to designate this. No core book or codexes to mess with: The box doesn’t come with a core rulebook, but that’s because the core rules are published in a pdf and often updated. The cards come with the units themselves so you don’t need another rulebook to know what your models do. When a unit activates it gets to do two of the following actions – only the Move action can be duplicated – all the rest you can only perform once. The list of actions is as follows: Legion is a rapidly growing game and at the time that this article is written Atomic Mass Games just announced the next expansions to the game will be based on the battle for Kashyyyk. This expansion will introduce Jedi Master Yoda, and new Wookies units for that can be added to both Republic and Rebel armies, while Separatists will see Magnaguard and a Super Tactical Droid that can be played as a named character or a second generic character. All these units will come with new abilities to the game and grant each faction additional options while forming their strategy. With a growing community of fans and plays, Legion will not be going away anytime soon. The mini cards which appear in the Core Set and the expansions, further enhance each unit, you can customise what gear you want to give each unit. Each unit card lists on the left-hand side what gear options you can give them, each slot can hold one mini-card, so you can customise each unit to your preference and liking, do you want it to be anti-vehicle or anti-infantry?

Naked B1s aren’t exactly useless on offense, either. Basically you are crit fishing, but six dice have a 55% chance to roll at least one crit. You are flipping a coin to push a crit through. Personnel Upgrades This two-player miniatures game by Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) is their first foray into the ground combat of the Star Wars universe. Unlike the small skirmishes found in its predecessor game, Imperial Assault, Star Wars Legion gives you a cinematic feel, and full squads appear, ready for battle, alongside vehicles such as speeder bikes, AT-RT’s and AT-ST’s. The basic gameplay is broken down into 6 rounds and plays like a lot of skirmish wargames you might already be familiar with, with each turn being broken down into distinct phases. The game has a fairly standard “You go, I go” structure where one player activates and completes a units turn, and then their opponent does the same, until everything has had its chance to activate. Measuring the battlefield Warfare is an inescapable part of the Star Wars universe, from the Rebel Alliance’s defeat in the Battle of Hoth to a few elite Rebel strike teams taking on a legion of stormtroopers on the Forest Moon of Endor. You can seize your chance to get your boots on the ground and lead your troops to victory with Star Wars Legion, a miniatures game of thrilling infantry battles in the Star Wars universe! Star Wars Legion invites you to enter the ground battles of the Galactic Civil War as the commander of a unique army of miniatures filled with troopers, powerful ground or repulsor vehicles, and iconic characters like Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. While innovative mechanics for command and control simulate the fog of war and the chaos of battle, the game’s unpainted, easily assembled minis give you a canvas to create the Star Wars army you’ve always wanted to lead into battle—whether you fight for the monolithic, oppressive Galactic Empire or the ragtag Rebel Alliance. It’s an E-5, but bigger! I’m not sure what the “C” stands for. I’m going with Cato Neimoidia, after its place of invention. Would that pass muster in Balderdash?
