And yet, all of us, at some point of our lives have told lies to ourselves. “You’re not good enough.” “You aren’t the person you think you are.” And so on. These lies can end up destroying us if we let them. This is a powerfully moving book, from start to finish it will educate you and no doubt stir up a whirlwind of thoughts and feelings. It's a spectacularly written book, we hear the voices of Sarah and Linda, essentially representing opposing sides as they try to reconcile through what they are supposed to do versus what they feel like doing (and being). These girls are heroines in my mind, strong women, I could not imagine the fear and confusion they felt, although the book does a darn good job of describing it. Garrison, D. They make sobering reading. Research from the University of Sheffield presented a worst-case scenario involving nearly a million additional hospital admissions over the next 20 years. Meanwhile, the Institute of Alcohol Studies predicted 147,892 additional cases of alcohol-related diseases, ranging from liver cirrhosis to breast cancer, by 2035.

Have you ever told yourself any of these lies or any variations of them? You see, most of us struggle with seeing ourselves as God sees us because it doesn’t make sense. Why would a perfect God remove the negative things from our account and ascribe them to His innocent Son?

And certainly not the students – especially Linda Hairston, daughter of the town’s most ardent segregationist. What do you call a person that lies to themselves? Human. The sad thing is, most of the time, we don’t even realize we’re lying to ourselves. We fail to realize that we are believing something about ourselves that is not true. The only issues I had with this story were the predictability of the last quarter of the book and the unrealistic ending. I think the ending was a little soft when compared to the beginning of the novel, there had been no real changes in the overall opinions of the community (obviously apart from Linda’s opinion) but everybody’s opinions seemed to have suddenly changed? oh boy... first off, the author did a lot of research, as she notes in the end, so props for that. and ruth, the little sister, is a fantastic character who has her own pov chapter at the very end and i loved that. She had always accepted that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was off-limits. Now, this serpent was trying to get her to question what she had always known as truth–she was not allowed to eat from the tree or else she’d die. Somehow, Eve managed to give the right response, at least, her version of it,
