About this deal

But perhaps the person with the best understanding of the UK and New Zealand systems is a Kiwi lawyer now practising in London.

The justice system’s reluctance to consider mistakes might have been made by police, lawyers, judges and juries, was ludicrous.

Billy put forward a special plea of ' consent' to the sexual assault charges yet in the statement above he is implying that it never happened and that this was " proved in court". He can't have it both ways - either his ex-wife consented or else it didn't happen, not both.

The EAC is mandated to prosecute the person(s) most responsible for international crimes committed in Chad between June 7, 1982 and December 1, 1990. This court is the first ad hoc tribunal to be established under the umbrella of a regional political body rather than the United Nations. It is also unprecedented in that it is the first regional court with criminal jurisdiction. Over the last decade, legal bodies, MPs of all parties and even parliament’s justice select committee have called for a more open and independent system, such as a CCRC, to look at possible wrongful convictions. The main opposition party in Parliament, New Zealand’s Labour Party, has recently supported establishing a CCRC. As a result, Luke Mitchell, who was 15 at the time, was charged with Jodi’s murder, before being convicted and sentenced in 2005.

But many more people see the CCRCs in England and Scotland as having huge value, despite their imperfections. The author confronts some ugly truths and disturbing realities which were commonplace, if well concealed, in the local area. But were they well concealed from the investigating authorities, or did they wilfully turn a blind eye? As you read, ask yourself, is it possible that the police really knew nothing of these goings on, right in the heart of one of the most brutal murder scenes in Scottish history? Why the hell can’t we make sure that we get it right the first time.’ Bob Woffinden. Pic: Mike White I think of the criminal justice system as a dreary casino where the quest for justice is a roll of the die that comes up craps as often as not.’ After reading the charges, the judges began to call witnesses to the stand. The first witnesses gave contextual evidence—the historical, social, political, economic, and cultural situation of Chad before and during the Habré regime. These witnesses also outlined the psychological profile of the defendant and described his political career from his first struggles to his fall in December 1990. The EAC judges also called expert witnesses to the stand. These mainly comprised forensic pathologists, ballistics experts, statisticians, and legal experts. The EAC judges then began to hear from direct and indirect victims. These witnesses gave testimony about the specific crimes they experienced or witnessed.

Following the 45-day recess, hearings resumed before the EAC. Although punctuated by commotion caused early in the day by the defendant’s supporters in the courtroom, the hearings got off to a successful start on September 7, 2015. We shouldn’t have all these campaigns to get the Birmingham Six released if they’d been hanged. They’d have been forgotten and the whole community would be satisfied… . It is better that some innocent men remain in jail than that the integrity of the English judicial system be impugned.’

'Bullied' by PCs in toilet

The CCRC will go out and get to the bottom of things and if it’s warranted, conduct investigations and then determine if there’s something that requires the attention of the appeal court. Whereas the Royal Prerogative of Mercy system as it is in New Zealand will rely on me begging, stealing and borrowing whatever professional assistance I can get to get people to pull together a case, and then hope that the Ministry of Justice, given their very tightly circumscribed constitutional position, can do something about it. And to suggest that that’s better than having a body that’s actually funded to go and do these investigations and find the problem – it isn’t credible.’ But up the anti around their false narrative and all the brain dead thugs they are evoking/enticing to cause harm to human life, as JH rightly says, should any harm come to her or ones grandchildren she will hold Forbes and Lean personally responsible for this. Lean and her usual predictive ' I have not produced a hate campaign, lets talk JH and I will show you the error of your ways!' realizing that all along they are being directed from behind. (From Mandela's memoirs, Long Walk to As Louise Shorter, an investigative journalist who established the Inside Justice investigative unit, put it: ‘Anything has got to be better than having a government department doing it.’ It will, of course, be for Mr Middleton to decide whether he wishes to take legal action regarding the content and intention of this post.
