About this deal

While it does sit at the lower end of the price range, its sleek design and well-finished detailing still gives the likes of the BabyBjorn Easy Go and Joie Kubbie Sleep a run for their money.

Red kite travel cot. Not allowed matress?? - Mumsnet Red kite travel cot. Not allowed matress?? - Mumsnet

While this travel cot is one of the cheapest on the market, it certainly doesn’t scrimp on quality. It is both durable and child-proof with the frame and corners covered well by fabric. There are also no zips or choking hazards, and no gaps where a child’s fingers could become trapped. The Dreamer Bedside Travel Crib is the new updated version of an old favourite but with the massive additional feature of including a drop side to allow for bedside safe sleeping.

Cons

Some travel cots come with a decent mattress included but the mattresses in many travel cots are quite thin and flimsy. As with the other cots on test, our tester, Ruth's, 18-month-old put the Sleeptight through its paces to ensure it did not topple over or become easily damaged over time – he rolled around inside it, bounced up and down with gusto, and his older siblings also tugged at (and pushed against) the sides from the outside. It passed our tests with flying colours. How easy is the Red Kite Sleeptight to assemble? It may be our budget choice, but the Red Kite Sleeptight works just as well as the more expensive travel cots we tested. It's also chemical-free, non-toxic and naturally fire retardant to ensure your little one's safety while they sleep. Its simplicity means it is very easy to set up and put down. Ruth assembled the cot in less than a minute as it came in two easy parts – the cot itself and the mattress.

As with everything, you can spend more or less than this - consider what works for your baby and how you can recreate the sleeping set-up you have at home to ensure a good sleep when you're away on holiday. WHEN you're away from home, one of the best travel cot mattresses can really help your little one to sleep and should last you trip after trip - so it's worth investing in a good one. Many years ago I bought a Graco travel cot which also stated that you should only use the mattress that comes with the travel cot. That mattress was about as comfortable as a plank of wood. So I measured the internal size of the base of the travel cot and added on a centimetre or 2 each way. I went to a local foam furnishing shop, explained I wanted the foam for a travel cot, they cut the foam to the size I wanted and used a type of foam that was suitable for a new born to sleep on.Tired babies and toddlers don't make for a happy holiday and a quality mattress will keep them safe and comfortable in their travel cot. Unfortunately the covers aren’t removable and the mattress doesn’t come with a sheet so everything needs to be spot cleaned with mild detergent and warm water before left to air dry. While it is fairly no frills in terms of overall aesthetic and the covers aren't machine-washable, it offers good longevity and, in our opinion, great value for money. Final verdict? The dropside means baby can co sleep next to parents allowing for strong bonds to develop and gives peace of mind to parents. The cover is pure cotton for breathability and has been treated to protect against bed bugs, dust mites, mosquitos and moths.
