About this deal

While some flashier features are limited to Android – I wouldn’t recommend buying them if you didn’t primarily use an Android phone – the basics work just as well with PCs and iPhones if you have a mix of devices. As I'm not sure this product even has been tested, I've lost all trust in Chameleon team, and I don't want to have them upload my data on their cloud without me being able to access it, so I'll just return it. Total waste of time, money and grey energy in my opinion (already had a IHM3). You own an iPhone: For a seamless experience within Apple's ecosystem, you need to be looking to earbuds that offer a dedicated app for iOS. The triple-point connectivity (a first in a product of this type) proves stable and useful, and thanks to ‘Just My Voice’ technology these earbuds are far less prone to wind-noise interference than any number of rivals.

7 best energy saving devices for your home in 2023: How to

Finally, the brand you choose will depend on what you're looking for – but we're careful with our lists. That means all of the earbuds and in-ear headphones above come from brands we trust. Still, if you're not sure where to start looking, respected brands like Sony, Apple, Cambridge Audio, Jabra, and Nura are good places to start. How we test the best earbuds In this guide we've included all of the best audio tech and earbuds brands on the market today. But the question of which brand is best depends on what you're looking for.

You really want app support: They do amazing things without a companion app (on-ear volume control, EQ, etc.) but if you want a visual cue of their battery life, no dice. With wireless earbuds, it's important that you get the right fit so they not only stay in your ears but so they sound and perform at their best (a tight seal is crucial for optimal sound and noise canceling if the earbuds have active noise canceling). If the buds come with silicone ear tips, you should use the bud that's a little bigger rather than too small for your ear. Also, in some cases, like with the AirPods Pro, you can buy third-party foam ear tips that grip the inside of your ear better and keep your buds from falling out. Note that sometimes people have one ear shaped differently than the other, so you might use a medium tip in one ear and a large tip in the other. We spoke to Lucy Joss from the Insights team at Energy Saving Trust, to find out the gadgets worth buying, as well as more top tips for saving money on electricity and gas bills. Best energy-saving devices at a glance If you do opt for wireless or true wireless earbuds, make sure the battery life is up to scratch, otherwise you may find yourself caught short without any music in the middle of your commute.

You’d prefer high-definition wireless sound quality: With support for just low-definition wireless codecs, the QCE II may not be for everyone. Because the fit of your earbuds is so important, it's critical to buy your buds at a retailer that has a good return policy, in case the buds aren't a good match for your ears. How we test true-wireless earbuds We also recommend you consider your budget. If you want cheap earbuds you may have to sacrifice features, like ANC or a long battery life. It’s all about weighing up what’s more important to you.Neutral and clear audio is your priority: While a rather subjective topic, the frequency profile in these buds isn’t flat, and its scooped mids can only be remedied so much. If I could change my gas meter (EDMI GS-60B) to change to a kWh display instead of cubic meters it might solve the problem. Anyone know if this is possible? As well as the excellent sound on offer here, Sony’s buds offer great call quality, too, which makes them a solid choice for all kinds of scenarios, from commuting to work calls and everything in-between. Design-wise, we found that these earbuds are smaller and lighter than previous models from Sony, like the Sony WF-1000XM3, which means they’re comfy to wear for long periods – though the Sony WF-C700N are much smaller and lighter again. The size of the XM4s has been reduced since the previous model, and the charging case is a full 40% smaller, weighing in at 41g. Positioning the buds comfortably took longer than it should have during our testing (we found them fiddly), but once we got used to them, we found them secure and easy to wear.

review: Adaptive ANC on a budget Redmi Buds 4 Pro review: Adaptive ANC on a budget

From what I’ve read, Chameleon pitches the ivie Bud has having multiple purposes. Firstly, as a replacement SMETS2 IHD for anyone who doesn’t currently have one and can’t get hold of one, as well as for anyone who wants to get real-time usage data in a smartphone app, which is reported as an upcoming feature integration. As it’s not out yet, I can’t currently play with that functionality though. Other than that, it’s the usual purposes you’d get from any IHD. We did enjoy the audio on offer from these buds, but you may want to do some tweaking when it comes to the audio profile. Out of the box, the sound is heavily scooped – at once overwhelming and sometimes boomy in the bass frequencies while being boosted and occasionally brittle in the upper treble range: all of this reduces the clarity of the mids. However, the five-band equalizer in the app means you can adjust the sound to your liking.

We're looking (listening?) for earbuds that sound good first and foremost – we want to hear clear, rich audio that does justice to every genre. We listen to both high-quality source music, as well as lower-quality streams, as well as movies and videos. It’s also important for me to mention that this review is written completely independently of OVO and Chameleon in my personal capacity as a forum volunteer. All views are my own and should be treated as such. ANC is top of your list: There's no active noise cancellation here, sadly, although the hear-through feature works beautifully to stay aware of your surroundings. Design-wise, they’re lightweight at just 3.7g per earbud and incredibly small with three different types of eartips, which means they should suit almost everyone and we certainly found them incredibly comfortable to wear during our testing. The NCSC also enforces a rule as part of the specifications that there cannot be any way to hook up anything to a Smart Meter locally outside of the ZigBee HAN. Even the Comms Hub uses a “wired” connection to the electric meter for power only, data is still sent between them over the HAN.
