Electric rechargeable toothbrushes come with replacement toothbrush heads, which should be replaced every three months. The charging station stands the Oral-B Pro 650 electric toothbrush upright meaning that the toothbrush does not get dirty whilst charging. Starting with the naming of the brushes, the Pro 650, is often known as or referred to as the Pro 650 Black.

It may be more interactive for children, as it does have some nice graphics; but the whole process feels like a bit of a hassle. There are of course many similarities between these two brushes and both have some design and features I have not touched upon yet, but I believe are worth noting. All of these models come with 1 x brush handle, 1 x brush head, 1 x charging stand and documentation in the box. That said, where at the time of comparison the 650 came with a travel case, it appears now in the UK is primarily comes with a tube of toothpaste supplied. The main buildup of grime I found is at the top of the lip on the brush head, just before the brush head connects to the main brush body.The Pro 3 addresses some of the shortcomings of the 650 and you don’t need to spend a great deal extra either. It is all too easy to think we have been brushing for longer than we have, as many of us get bored when completing a mundane task like cleaning the teeth. Both have the coloured rubber grip that runs down the front of the brush handle and a power button that is accented in white. It is important to try and protect the brush head a little from damage as these are what do the cleaning and damaged bristles can actually cause more damage than you think. The reality is that the difference would be marginal, albeit almost impossible to really determine in normal use.

Take a look at the lower third of the brush find the battery power icon, above which is a small amount of branding, which is barely noticeable, embossed into the rubber. The single power button sits in a slight recess, but itself is pronounced and gives a tactile feedback. If you want a visual clue or a dedicated timer in the form of a clock, then you will need to opt for the significantly more expensive brushes on the market or use the ‘Sound Connectivity’ option explained a little later. Whilst you have the charging stand, this limited edition Pro 650 also comes with a travel case, which will accommodate the brush and at least one head and protects it from damage and inadvertent activation when in a bag.

Electric toothbrushes are suitable from ages 3+, with specific kids electric toothbrush models available, and are gentle on gums and suitable for sensitive teeth. The Black refers to nothing other than the rubber grip colour there are no other special features, it just seems to be a marketing thing that Oral-B do. The good news however is that these brushes accept a range of different brush heads that are engineered to achieve different things or may suit your preferences better. If you are on a budget however and you want something now rather than saving up for our recommended model, the Vitality 100 is the brush to go for. Very pleased with product, can take a few knocks, plus you can feel the difference from a manual toothbrush within the week.With so few differences between the brushes, the conclusion I come to will be different to yours, but at the end of the day both do a great job of cleaning teeth. Providing you then have the app open on your smartphone or tablet when you go to clean your teeth, the built-in microphones will listen out for the sound of the brush. Some will just throw the brush into a wash bag or you can always pick up a travel case at a later date, although it will be more expensive. If you do not have one, you can purchase an adapter to allow you to connect it to a conventional 3 pin UK mains socket. Do not rule the 650 out because of it, you do not have to use this feature, but if you do, just be aware of the conditions of use.
