About this deal

Essentially the only thing that happens is that the car refuses to unlatch, if someone presses the open button. My story in list form, boot light off - followed by boot not opening 2006 Astra 1.4sxi 5 Door hatch. The wiring between the hatch and the body was in a real mess. Made up a new loom and it still didn't work as reliably as I wanted it to. My centre brake light also did not work.

Tailgate Release Switch, ABS Black Tailgate Switch, 13359895

Got it sorted ta, popped off the panel as per advice, gave everything a fiddle and it seems to be working fine. Ok, so after some research I have been able to almost conclusively determine we have a fault in the wiring loom for the tailgate.

if it doesnt open easily, a little bit of a cleanout or grease (WD40) inside the latch normally does the job...

New Original Parts — VAUXCENTRE

actually, i have been able to open the boot by releasing the catch with my finger - not sure if something has been removed from the garage visit, but i don't remember there being as a big a gap before. however this doesn't really help as i cannot see any obvious wiring breaks at the small loom at the joint. I also can't see any obvious way to remove the pod at the top of the tailgate to get to the break light. Once i got the tailgate open, i was able to visually inspect the wiring a little and couldn't see anything obvious but given the time of night and i was working with a torch i didn't want to try removing the grommet to do a proper inspection of the wiring so that is something i will do when there is more time and better light. The sunroof switch or control module may be faulty and not sending the correct signal to open the sunroof. After the service we had the car at another garage for something unrelated and asked them to look into the tailgate issue and they said it could take hours to determine the fault because of all the work that would be required in getting to the mechanism. Wondering whether someone has experienced the same issue and can point me in the right direction before i either burn it, or take it to a stealer. I removed the plastic panel reverse of boot lid, very tight clips, some stay on the boot lid, remove them carefully. If i had to put my money on something, i would bet on the wiring that goes from the car to the boot. Clearly some "expert" had been in there before me and had used loads of electrical tape to "fix" the issues.
