About this deal

Now the subject of the hit documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, praised by Vanity Fair as "full of revelations" and Entertainment Weekly as "deliciously salacious," Full Service is the remarkable true story of Scotty Bowers, the "gentleman hustler," during the heyday of classic Hollywood.

On the one hand it's a scandalous summer beach read, packing with filthy juice Hollywood gossip that you may or may not believe. pimp, who cannot even fall asleep on a park bench without a movie star waking him up and employing him (as a volunteer! When Full Service first hit the bookshelves, pearl-clutchers started raising concerns, both about the validity of Scotty's claims and about outing these people after their deaths. I think that's enough time, and his stories give a huge insight into a cultural touchstone of American history that would have otherwise been lost to the sands of time. Then there wasn`t just the moral behaviour clauses in their contracts that could see them crashing to earth with a bang, if discovered, but the Vice Squad of the L.

The earlier stories about the famous people who just wanted to have free and easy sex with someone are positively quaint in comparison. I'm not going to blindly accept everything he says as gospel, necessarily, because he didn't come out with his tell-all until almost everyone involved was dead. There is so much in Full Service I have not even touched on — and that's just the way a book review should go, in my opinion.

This was to be the inaugural book in the Tinseltrash Book Club, a sleazy cabal of ne’er do wells dedicated to the pursuit of arcane knowledge, namely who in old Hollywood was schtupping who, and how.He strains credulity when he relates having sex with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, both together and separately. He always made sure his mom had money, but he wasn’t a good dad and completely incapable of being a husband.

Quite quickly, Scotty became not just a trick but a bringer of tricks – an intermediary, a connection – as well as a participant. I bought this book because it promised to be possibly the most over-the-top sleazy Hollywood memoir ever, and it did not fail to deliver.

I was more incredulous when he would tell me that he had an early sexual encounter with a Catholic priest, and it was so mutually agreeable for both that he soon had 20 priests visiting him regularly. According to Full Service the studios would all but empty of their big-name talent whenever Scotty Bowers' evening shift began at a little gas station on Hollywood Boulevard.
