About this deal

Grendel’s mother, a swamp-hag who lives in a desolate lake, comes to Heorot seeking revenge for her son’s death. There are graphic descriptions of violence, as you'd expect, but the tales are well told in a way that is suitable for the older child.

Beowulf - Holly Primary School Beowulf - Holly Primary School

This series includes extracts from Beowulf as well as samples from other books such as The Graveyard Book, Viking Boy, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Norse myths: Tales of Odin, Thor and Loki and Castle in the Air for children to compare and enjoy. It is not known with certainty who wrote Beowulf, although it is thought to have been put together sometime between the 8th and 11th centuries. I pointed out some of the interesting history, and the interpolated Christianity which didn't fit the original story - and we waded through the gore. This award is given every year by Action for Children’s Arts to a “children’s arts practitioner” whose lifetime’s work has delighted children and will stand the test of time. To avenge Aeschere’s death, the company travels to the murky swamp, where Beowulf dives into the water and fights Grendel’s mother in her underwater lair.Standing head and shoulders above his comrades, Beowulf single-handedly saves Denmark from Grendel, a "merciless murderous ogre," as well as from his sea-hag mother.

Beowulf - Michael Morpurgo - Google Books

On the other hand, I disliked that the protagonist had no flaws, it makes the character inhumanly and the reader can not relate to him. Michael Morpurgo was 2003-2005 Children's Laureate, has written over one hundred books and is the winner of many awards, including the Whitbread Children's Book Award, the Smarties Book Prize, the Blue Peter Award and the Red House Children's Book Award. My favourite character is Beowulf because he is a brave , fearless warrior , always saving the day and always being a true hero. There is a lot of alliteration in Beowulf, and sometimes, the use of words can describe the situation Beowulf is in. A son and grandson of actors, Michael has acting in his blood and enjoys collaborating and performing live adaptations of his books at festivals, concerts and theatres. it may be an old story, yet it troubles and terrifies us now as much as it ever did, for we still fear the evil that stalks out there in the darkness and beyond.
