About this deal

These botanicals reflect the fruity character that Tobermory is known for in their standout Single Malt whisky. Martin Miller’s Gin was one of the frontrunners of the gin revival. Launched in 1999, it remains a ‘must-have’ gin to this day.

Sitting in the centre of the vibrant island community, from which we take our name, we are a thriving, expressive and unique distiller, true to our idyllic Hebridean home. Tobermory is the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull, and the talented team had been keen to expand their distilling skills and produce their first gin. Situated on the Hebridean island of Mull in the coastal fishing town of Tobermory, the Tobermory Distillery, originally called the Ledaig Distillery, was established in 1798. The seafront and harbour is famous for its rainbow coloured row of houses and shops that overlook the Sound of Mull, the expanse of water between the east side of the island and mainland Scotland. The idea to produce a gin came about when the distillery had the opportunity to buy a 60-litre 1950s copper still from South Africa. They shipped it all the way to Mull, refurbished and installed it, and called it Wee Betty. (Betty’s a popular name for Scottish gin stills, as The Botanist from Islay is made in Ugly Betty.)

Lovingly named ‘botanical #1’, hours of hard work and experimentation were involved in creating the perfect balance for the splash, which makes Tobermory Gin so special. Palate: Savoury elements sit up front - oily juniper, cardamom and kitchen herbs. Clean lemon zest and star anise notes cut through the herbaceousness. Tarquin’s Gin has always had a really pretty bottle. With its signature wax finish, it’s one that stood out. In August 2018, to mark the 5th anniversary, the bottle went to a whole new level. Goes great with: A sprig of thyme, slice of blood red orange, a pinch of dried hibiscus flowers, tonic and ice. The logo etched on the centre is the hibiscus flower which is prominent in Bruce’s childhood home of Durban, South Africa. It’s also one of the botanicals used in Brentingby Gin. It’s a huge favourite with gin fanatics since its launch in 2018, both for this beauty, as well as its somewhat flavoursome gin.It was especially important for them to create something truly original and unique, like their island, so when the opportunity arose to secure a redundant John Dore & Co copper still from South Africa, the time felt right. Their flagship product, takes its name after the original settlement on which the village now stands, with a croft being the Scottish word for a small farm. Standing in a bottle shop, I was instantly drawn to Silent Pool. I’d never tasted it but such was the beauty of the bottle, I was desperate to try it. The brand takes its name from the legendary haunted Silent Pool in Albury, England, where their distillery sits.

As a Scot, I may be biased Scot, but the country really does know how to brand and market spirits. Wild Island Gin, from the beautiful Isle of Colonsay, is no exception. Ensuring a true taste of the island is hugely important to the blend, as is demonstrated with the inclusion of a pinch of Hebridean tea, grown by a local on Mull. Read More Related Articles

River Test Distillery takes its name from the waters on which their gin is made. Famous for its fly fishing and clear waters, these two facets are incorporated into the design of their bespoke bottle. On the southwestern tip of England lies Cornwall, a region that’s fast becoming famed for its gins. Land of Saints takes its name from the fact that Cornwall is home to 69 saints. Lind & Lime Gin was launched in 2018 and its bottle has caused quite the stir. The gin’s story is centred around the port of Leith in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. The city has a long history with gin, as a key trading port with Europe. Upon arriving in the harbour, wines and spirits would be taken from their barrels and bottled. Thus, glass became produced in large quantities in the port. Launched in 2020, the gin uses 18 botanicals, the majority of which are sourced from China. Inspired by perfume bottles from the time of the Ming dynasty, this incredible bottle was designed by artist, Lala Curio, in partnership with Hong Kong ceramic brand Loveramics.
