About this deal

Our only real criticism of the image is at higher resolutions. Occasionally that punchy approach can take things too far; it doesn’t have the same chromatic complexity as more expensive TVs. The result is that every now and then, the colour of a piece of clothing or skin tone misses the mark. With the stand attached, the 50-inch TV that I tested measures 705 x 1,117 x 251 mm and weighs 11.8kg, so while it is possible to set it up by yourself it’ll be much easier if you have another person to lend a hand. Remove depleted batteries immediately to prevent battery acid from leaking into the battery compartment.

If you are an enthusiast you will be aware of the downfalls with LCD technologies and using them in a dark room, and there is no difference here, but as a living room workhorse the Hisense is very good indeed. The vast majority of consumers will never push the U7QF hard enough to really find all the niggles we did and as such it will be a perfect choice for many. Viewing angles do mean it isn’t really suited to those sitting well off-axis, but when sat head on the image performance is very good and on a par with some much more expensive peers. Connect a HDMI / AV cable from an external AV equipment. No sound connection is needed for HDMI to HDMI connection. If the signal resolution does not match the specification table, you need to change the setting of device according to the table. Please consult your device user manual for instruction. You'll get colourful, sharp picture quality even though the HDR brightness could be better. And the design of the set will look smart in your living room. It's a shame that the sound isn't quite up to par, but that’s easily solved by hooking up a separate soundbar.

Some of the best 50-inch smart TVs improve your viewing experience in ways that couldn’t have been predicted a few years ago. Upgrading to one of the best TVs that also supports 4K resolution is a real game-changer; whether you're a sports fan or gamer, movie watcher or streaming binger. But, did you know most TV shows, movies, games and streaming services are optimized for larger screen sizes? Continuing the gaming discussion, the 55A7GQ’s HDMIs support ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) switching with compatible devices (such as the Xbox Series X), and when switched into its dedicated Game picture preset the TV delivers a very respectable 14.6ms of input lag. The TV is pretty lightweight even with the stand attached, alerting you to the fact that all that glitters isn’t necessarily metal – but the plastic at the build quality’s heart isn’t apparent from any sort of regular viewing distance.

It depends on the TV brand and model, phone brand and model, and available screen-mirroring apps. Not to mention the availability of Bluetooth connections. However, as technology improves, more and more smart TVs are capable of being paired with a smartphone. Whatever you go for, you’re going to love all that extra screen space. So, whether you're settling down with the family to watch Disney's Encanto, or gearing up to binge-watch HBO's The Last of Us, our experts have found the best 50-inch smart TVs to suit all budgets, up next. Best 50-inch smart TVs of 2023 at a glance: This second run of Hisense Roku TVs for the UK really comes into its own once we leave the confines of Earth and head to the Sovereign planet for the Guardians’ battle with the Abilisk and a firework display of colour and fun. Carefully place your TV facedown on a soft, flat surface to prevent damage to the TV or scratching to the screen. You’ll find 4K HDR content available on all the big players. Since last year’s model was launched, UHD support for Google Play has arrived as has the BT Sport app, which is good news for football fans.

The A7GQ also features Hisense’s propriety smart TV system, VIDAA U5.0, as well as Freeview Play with all the UK terrestrial catch-up apps and services. The VIDAA system is intuitive to use and runs at a decent speed from button press to app opening and playing, plus there is Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube in 4K HDR. There is a content discovery feature along with direct one-press buttons on the remote and there is also compatibility with Alexa for voice commands. Watching the battle sequence outside Maz’s tavern midway through Star Wars: The Force Awakens, gives an excellent sense of what this speaker system can manage. Given its limited resources, this TV copes pretty well. The sound effects of the laser blasts and the TIE fighters screaming past are crisp and detailed. The battle cries and dialogue of the rebels and troopers are clear and placed effectively in the soundscape. When the X-Wings come to the rescue and chase off the Empire, the rousing score still manages to excite. There’s also app-to-app pairing, which will allow you to control a TV app with your phone. For example, you can browse Netflix’s catalogue on your phone, and then tell it to play via the TV app. Can I listen to my smart TV with wireless headphones?
