About this deal

Ten years ago Heather Vernon was found guilty of the brutal murder of her husband, Liam, an up and coming MP. Newly released on licence Heather is determined to discover who actually murdered her husband so that she can clear her name and be reunited with her sons. This book was the definition of unputdownable, I’m already a massive fan of the author’s writing but I kept finding myself stopping and re-reading certain sentences/conversational exchanges because they were just that good. The first chapter immediately piqued my interest and the story didn’t let up until the explosive ending. A former national newspaper journalist, Tim lives in Nottinghamshire with his family and writes in a cabin at the bottom of his garden. In addition, I think one of the aspects that made The Mother so exciting for me, and such a gripping read, was the fact that Heather’s relentless pursuit of the truth goes so far beyond anything I’d dare attempt, that I was fascinated by her and her actions. I completely forgot that she’s a fictional character and was desperate for her to get justice. There’s quite a limited cast too with much of the action revolving around Heather, Jodie, Owen and Amy and this increases the tension and provides a sense of claustrophobia.

I thought The Mother was excellent, finding it gripping, absorbing and exciting. I thoroughly appreciated the depth given to the narrative through the themes of justice and family and the way Heather is fiercely determined to uncover the truth of Liam’s murder – whatever the consequences. I recommend The Mother completely. It’s a super read. About T.M. Logan Having become a big fan of T.M. Logan’s writing I’m extremely grateful to Tracy Fenton for inviting me to participate in the blog tour for his latest thriller The Mother. I’m delighted to share my review of The Mother today. You’ll also find my review of The Curfew here.

Heather is literally bringing Theo and Finn up single handedly due to Liam's work commitments and Heather is at the end of her tether.

His thriller, Trust Me, begins when a woman is asked to look after a stranger’s baby on a train – only for the mother to vanish. When she looks in the baby’s things, she finds a note that says: ‘Please protect Mia. Don’t trust the police. Don’t trust anyone.’ I raced through this book. It starts with a real bang – that first scene sets a real tone of mystery – and the tension is always high, with plenty happening to keep your attention focused. You’re never quite sure who you can trust, and the fact that his death might be linked to corruption higher up in the government raises the stakes further. One of the aspects of The Mother that I found most affecting was the way T.M. Logan illustrated how society judges by appearance, or continues to condemn those who find themselves facing adversity without knowing the full details. This prejudicial aspect lends a thought-provoking element that made me feel quite sad, even as I was enjoying the fast pace and the excitement of the plot. The Curfew follows the events of a hot midsummer's night, when five teenagers go up to the woods to celebrate the end of exams, and only four come out... Bestselling author TM Logan was a national newspaper journalist before turning to novel-writing full time. His thrillers have sold more than two million copies in the UK and are published in translation in 22 countries around the world including France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, South Korea, Poland, Hungary, Serbia, Greece, Romania and the Netherlands. The story starts with a funeral. The children stand at the front of the room grieving the loss of their mother. Little do they know that she is stood, hiding in the shadows watching them with her heart breaking… It has it good moments of various revelations, but they weren't ones that kept you guessing or at edge as to what happens next! A woman attends a funeral, standing in the shadows and watching in agony as her sons grieve. But she is unable to comfort them - or reveal her secret. The Mother has just shot up to being my favourite book by Logan which is an impressive feat as I have pretty much loved all of his other books.

A true single-sitting read, The Mother is the best yet from the master of the heartbreaking, heart-pounding, head-spinning thriller." - Ellery Lloyd A propulsive, unrelentingly compelling thriller' B. P Walter, Sunday Times bestselling author of THE DINNER GUEST Thus begins her quest to clear her name and find her husband’s killer. Teaming up with a journalist they begin to delve deeper into her husband’s activitities as a politician but there are people out there who believe the past should remain in the past and will stop at NOTHING to make sure their secrets stay hidden. A very exciting experience. The audio book version I’ve just finished left me in panic mode! The pitch and power of this narrator is spot on, talk about upping the tempo at the end! The Curfew, coming March 2022, follows the events of a hot midsummer’s night, when five teenagers go up to the woods to celebrate the end of exams, and only four come out…

My early experiences of Tim Logan's books ended in varying degrees of disappointment. I found that they either flattered to deceive, or else they simply didn't live up to the amount of hype surrounding them. All of that changed when I read his excellent previous novel, "The Curfew" and this latest offering is again forcing me to re-evaluate my earlier impression of this author. Heather is an investable character, I just couldn’t help but root for her after reading the ins and outs of her wrongful conviction and subsequent 9 year stint in prison for the murder of her husband Liam. Heather’s journey from being released to trying to piece together what actually happened that horrific night all while being a mother who has been wrenched apart from her two sons for over a decade made for such a compelling story. Fast-paced and gripping, T.M. Logan has truly outdone himself with his newest masterpiece! I live in Nottinghamshire with my wife and two children, and write in a cabin at the bottom of my garden. I have read other books recently where someone has been wrongfully imprisoned and gotten out trying to prove their innocence, and they have been a much better read than this one. I was glad that the timescale that had lapsed was only ten years, as anything longer always makes these types of stories harder to swallow. What does wind me up about these kinds of premises, though, is why wasn’t all of this investigated by the lawyers and the accused before the trial? Surely the trial wasn’t the day after she was charged, but there was a period of time when the lawyers would gather their defence. Why wasn’t all of this looked into, then? Even if Heather were on remand, she would have had a team of people helping her. A heart-stopping, twisting, unmissable thrill-ride. The Mother kept me glued to my seat and guessing until the very end. No one does it better than T.M. Logan' Chris Whitaker
