There are so many STEM toys available on the market today, but some of our favorites are Brainflakes. Spencer used a good portion of our collection to build a skeletal dragon, complete with moving joints.

She stacked and snapped disc after disc to try and create cats, cars, and just about everything in between. The other day, the kids spend an entire afternoon building different Pokemon (yes, my kids are into Pokemon – ahh the memories! All of the discs were the same size and shape, though the colors varied, and they looked a bit like flowers. We had the Team Rocket theme song playing on repeat as each kid took a turn being the ‘bad guys’ and then saving the day.
Teaching my 8-year-old daughter about science is important, and I’m always trying to find new ways to introduce STEM concepts to her without losing her attention. It’s not a sophisticated packaging system, but these plastic connector pieces don’t need anything fancy; they can be thrown back into the container once playtime is over, and the plastic handle made it easy to transport them from place to place.
