When you read, not only will your comprehension skills go up, but so will your writing ability. Exposure to great pieces of literature has an effect on your writing abilities beyond just vocabulary words. Phrases and sentence structures that you were previously unfamiliar with become second nature. Reading has the ability to completely transform your life situation. Even though reading is required literacy teaching for schools, its application goes way beyond that of the academic setting. By harnessing the power of reading, ordinary people can develop skills that are otherwise inaccessible. Why is reading good for you? Reading is good for you because it improves your focus, memory, empathy, and communication skills. It can reduce stress, improve your mental health, and help you live longer. Reading also allows you to learn new things to help you succeed in your work and relationships. The ability to analyze details and piece together stories and facts in your head is something that reading books can provide you with. Take Advantage of The Power of Reading! Props don’t need to be removed from the reading areas, nor does a reading area have to be dull. Young children enjoy reading to their favourite toys or re-enacting a story using small world figures, toys or puppets, perhaps whilst listening to an audio book or engaging in shared and social reading activity. And making a reading corner attractive to children is important in giving reading for pleasure status or to encourage browsing and social reading experiences.

Research has confirmed that reading stimulates a complex network of circuits and signals in the brain. Plus, as you improve your reading ability, these networks become stronger and more sophisticated. All the books we choose have to lend themselves to sustained study in a primary classroom. We need to be able to see where we can offer in depth and real writing experiences, meaningful study of literary styles and rhythms, opportunities for response that is creative and open-ended, all whilst keeping children engaged with the characters and the story as a whole.
