About this deal

This tome covers all the key Kill Team rules for both the Ork Kommandos and the Veteran Guardsman, detailing rare equipment, tactical ploys, and a range of battlefield roles. Even that trailer, replete with titillating footage of the first ever plastic Death Korps veterans and Ork Kommandos, couldn’t match the cinematic glories of the hype-up CG trailer that dropped on the previous evening, however. If you’re playing a narrative Spec Ops campaign (more on that below), equipment works a little differently. Rather than freely choosing any item that takes your fancy, your squad will earn rare pieces of equipment throughout their campaign, which look to be decidedly deadly. I only briefly dipped my toes into Kill Team at the end of the last edition after I as the Pariah Nexus expansion foisted onto me to review. Whilst I wasn’t an enormous fan of the expansion set (funnily enough, I still haven’t painted the 3,000+ pieces of ridiculous cuboid terrain that came in the box), I did quite like the skirmish-style gameplay and found it fast-paced and exciting.

Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Octarius – What’s In The Box? Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Octarius – What’s In The Box?

As the next narrative setting for Warhammer 40,000, War Zone Octarius is home to a continually developing story that will have far-reaching consequences for the fate of the galaxy. The saga begins with Kill Team and War Zone Octarius: Book One – Rising Tide, which we also revealed during Saturday’s preview . GW says it’s a system designed to “give true close combat specialists a real moment to shine”. We’ll be watching this portion very closely.

Kill Team 2nd Edition BACKGROUND

There is an awful lot of terrain in this box. The last time someone gave me a box full of terrain, it didn’t go down well. THE TL;DR: The new Fire Team rules mean you can only field models from one or two units according to the Kill Team Compendium, which you have to buy separately. The Kill Team Compendium is not only expensive, but is also bereft of unique rules for a huge number of models. If the Kill Team Roadmap is anything to go by, these rules probably won’t appear until well into the future and will require you to spend more money to obtain. Straight out of the box there are two full kill teams, ready to do battle at dangerously close quarters on a battlefield full of Ork terrain. The new core book, and the ruleset contained within, represents a total reimagining of how combat on this scale should operate in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Over the coming weeks we’ll be taking a deep dive on this incredible, innovative new ruleset with insight from the creative team behind the best Warhammer 40,000 skirmish game ever! And because you can only take one or two types of Fire Team in your army, it’s not like you can even spice things up by chopping and changing models for extra abilities. No, if the figures in your Fire Team of choice have no Abilities or Unique Actions, that’s it. While the Outcasts fight for survival, House Delaque pulls strings from the shadows, breaking from the darkness only to make a well-placed incision or long-rifle shot that will turn the tides of conflict to their advantage.

Kill Team starter set vs. Kill Team: Octarius Review: New Kill Team starter set vs. Kill Team: Octarius

Killzone Octarius is a scenery expansion set for Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team, comprising a range of Ork terrain pieces to populate Killzones. As well as being an excellent set of modular terrain, this box lets you recreate the mission layouts in the Kill Team: Octarius book. It's the perfect complement for your games of Kill Team, and an ideal way to begin or expand your terrain collection.

The rules for this team can be found in the Moroch book. You can read our guide for these traitorous guardsmen here. Elucidian Starstriders In a move which has provoked a really staggering number of memes and argument online, Kill Team 2nd Edition is adopting a system of plastic movement gauges with simple shape symbols on them, instead of tape-measures and numbers of inches. He earned his exile and notoriety in the events following Uriel Ventris and the Ultramarines’ defence of Tarsis Ultra in the Third Tyrannic War, when Kryptman took drastic action to slow the advance of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Noting that the Tyranids were getting stronger with every world they consumed, he pronounced Exterminatus on every planet in their path, condemning billions to death. With a body count like that, it’s a real wonder he didn’t end up on our list of morally dubious Inquisitors . Scaling things down to the grubby world of inter-gang skirmishes, Necromunda has a slew of releases that make the Zone Mortalis even more deadly. Hive Scum

Anyway, beneath all the plastic lies a divider. As with all these releases, GW included a print of the box art to keep the spikey bits on the sprues form damaging any of the more fragile items included in the box beneath it. So, if you want to start playing the game, but you’re not particularly fond of either of the teams in the starter set, you’re better off buying a Core Book, the book with rules for your preferred Kill Team, the models for your team and an Essentials box. The rules for this kill team can be found in the Moroch book. Read our guide for these sneaky space marines here. BloodedNot sure what game to buy next? Your units’ datacards are changing, showing off what your operatives can do in more detail than ever before. Front-line troopers can act with comrades, nimble fighters can dodge incoming fire, and powerful soldiers, like the mighty Space Marines, can even perform more actions in a turn than lesser beings. We’ll be having a close look at the new datacards later this week, so keep your eyes peeled. Like all the other expansions for this edition of Kill Team, Nachmund was only available for a limited time. It included:

Scrap Pile

MISSION RULES Commander: Before players set up their kill teams, the Defender must select one model to be the Commander. If any of their Operatives are a LEADER, they must choose one of them. The Commander must be set up wholly within the target zone, and must start the battle within this zone (it cannot use any abilities or scouting options to move out of this zone before the battle begins). Octarius comes with two books: the Core Book and the Octarius Book (well, three if you count the build guide for the Orks, DKoK, and scenery). The Core Book is your general, all-inclusive rules manual, whilst the Octarius Book contains all the extra bits you can use for playing your game in this particular Kill team setting. Kill Team Core Book Arguably, Kill Team is the present-day spiritual successor to many of these spin offs, borrowing bits from its many predecessors to come up with its current ruleset. Based on skirmish combat, Kill Team is a game that pits small groups of unique operatives against one another as players battle over objectives. It has always been designed to be a fast-paced tabletop game with a focus on creating, curating, and celebrating the unique forces delivered to the gaming board by its players. Squads of elite operatives battle for the fate of the Octarius Sector in the all-new, reimagined Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team. The Kill Team: Octarius launch box is the ultimate introduction, containing everything you need to run a thrilling campaign between the Veteran Guardsmen of the Death Korps of Krieg and the Ork Kommandos as an entire sector descends into all-out war.
