About this deal

This one was a wiild ride!! It centers on Nicolas, who may or may not have murdered his twin sister while high on drugs and alcohol; and Emma, a disgraced cop who is now working with his defense lawyer. The POVs' switch between the two. The action starts off almost immediately and doesn't let up throughout the book. Unusually with these kind of stories I enjoyed the beginning, the middle, and the end - although I had guessed what the ending might be by a third of the way through, it was executed in such a good way that it still left me reeling.

Anna is a defense lawyer and she is engaged to defend Nicolas in court. As stylish and ambitious as she is she has her own issues. She hires a great ex-policewoman, Emma Tapper, who is in a constant semi- to full-drunk state through the entirety of the book. Emma's lost her reputation with the police and one cannot tell if what she does and says is helping her case or it's making it worse.

The Innocent One

Sophisticated, suspenseful, unsettling, and highly recommended: a terrific debut from an author to watch." - Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author The Guilty One POPS with magnetic characters, unparalleled humor, and a sympathetic protagonist with a hellavalot to prove. Protagonist cop Cal is already playing from behind professionally when he is thrown into a propulsive plot where heinous crimes from his past and present collide. Determined to slosh through the murky waters of his beleaguered reputation and personal self-doubts, Cal questions why he seems to be the focal point of where these crimes intersect, positing the question in his own mind and in the minds of others — just who exactly IS the guilty one here?

Fleming, Mike Jr. (September 15, 2020). " 'Southpaw' Duo Jake Gyllenhaal & Antoine Fuqua To Re-Team On Tense Thriller 'The Guilty' ". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved November 12, 2020. But despite the simple set-up, The Guilty plot comes with a few twists and turns that might surprise you. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, with a screenplay from Nic Pizzolatto, the thriller is an English-language remake of the critically-acclaimed 2018 Danish film of the same name. Fuqua—who has directed films like Training Day, The Magnificent Seven remake, and Olympus Has Fallen—manages to maintain the tension almost entirely through phone calls, which is no small feat. Jasmine Moretti believes the prophecy that herself or her twin will not live to their 30th birthday, could it possibly be her brother who killed her though?? In 'The Guilty One', Detective Cal Farrell has been hailed as a hero ever since he stymied an active shooter but that label never felt right. He remains troubled by his non-recollection of the tragic Very Hot Day. Things get uglier when he spots a body strung immensely high up on a tree during a morning run. This book is exactly what I wanted from a psychological thriller, and utterly unpredictable! The story was intense from the very beginning, and I ended up binging the audio because I couldn’t put it down without knowing what happened! The body count begins to climb and Cal is working his hardest to find the killer, but unfortunately his fellow officers and the town itself start to point the finger at him. On the surface, this looks like a legal thriller (and a really excellent one). And don't get me wrong, that aspect is definitely there. But it's so much more than that. Alternating with the chapters of the prep work for and trial itself are ones showing how Daniel became who he is now. It's important to know that going in, because if you expect something that's, say, John Grisham, you'll be disappointed. A hero cop thwarts a brutal murder and can’t remember a thing about it. But memories return—and so do the nightmares in this breathlessly paced thriller for fans of David Ricciardi and Michael Connelly. The film was streamed in 69 million households over the first month of its release, and was the top-watched film on the platform in 91 countries. [14] Reception [ edit ]What crime did Minnie commit that made Daniel disregard her for fifteen years? And will Daniel’s identification with a child on trial for murder make him question everything he ever believed in? I found this an engrossing read. It tells the story of a Sebastian, an 11 year old boy up on charges of murdering an 8 year old boy. Daniel, his lawyer, relates to the boy when he takes on the case. So the reader also gets the story of Daniel, his life as a foster child and his time with Minnie the foster mother who later adopted him and from whom he ended up estranged. The reason for this is not explained until fairly late in the book but I didn’t think there was any surprise about it. But after the THEN chapters ended, and the timeline switched and moved forward to the NOW, I got frustrated with Cal. He was trying so hard to prove himself as a detective, eyeing the murder case, to the point that I thought he was being a fool. Cal didn't exactly made good impression to the Homicide detectives, he didn't listen to his older partner's advice, and worse the villain easily manipulated him. A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy.
