About this deal

Arthur’s grandson, Teddy, is also learning to embrace his sexuality. They are both beautifully written characters, both vulnerable and relatable in their own ways. You can’t help falling in love with Teddy and Arthur. The two POVs weave perfectly throughout and the supporting cast of characters (especially Oscar and Madeleine) are expertly crafted. Arthur And Teddy Are Coming Out is the first novel by British author, Ryan Love. Twenty-one-year-old Teddy’s first day as a trainee journalist at The Post isn’t ideal. His mother, outspoken journalist Elizabeth Marsh called in a favour to secure him the spot, and everyone seems to be aware of that, including his competition, a dishy fellow trainee called Ben. Teddy genuinely just wants to work and learn, but Ben King seems resentful.

Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is a wonderful and uplifting read that gave me all the warm fuzzy feelings.

Then there's Elisabeth, who comes across like a caricature villain rather than a daughter who is struggling to deal with her father's news. I write this as someone whose own wife was outed by a family member and is still dealing with transphobic views within the family, so I am not against this kind of representation. But it is handled so poorly in this story that I simply cannot continue reading.

What an absolutely beautiful book! Dealt with sensitive subjects really, really well and brilliantly descriptive characters.’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ By entering this competition, you also agree to the Caboodle Terms and Conditions and Caboodle Points Terms and Conditions. Too often, queer literature is enjoyed only by the LGBT+ community, but this is a novel ready to be loved by the masses.’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Elizabeth, Teddy's mom and Arthur's daughter, is the absolute WORST, terribly homophobic, and everyone is way too understanding of her homophobia so she never has to show even a shred of accountability for her behavior A joyful, big-hearted story about family, friendship and finding your place in the world' Freya Sampson, author of The Last Chance Library

Come back when you're older

The title already says it: Arthur and Teddy are coming out. Arthur is Teddy's grandad, and after 50 years of marriage with his wife, Teddy's grandma, he's finally ready to tell the world he's gay. Well, to tell his family, but soon everyone will know.

This book really emphasises that it’s never too late to be you and it sure will be in my top favourites of the year. I would love more from Arthur and Teddy. 😍 Life is full of sacrifices, Teddy. We'll make good and bad choices, but we shouldn't let regrets define us. I'm not perfect, but I hope when I'm not here that the people I love will remember me for the good things and know I did my best for them. -Arthur The prizes are non-transferable and there are no cash alternatives, and are subject to availability. In exceptional circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right to foreclose the competition without notice. After almost 80 years of being in the closet, Arthur decides he can no longer keep his sexuality a secret and decides to confide in his children, which causes a dramatic effect on his community, especially his grandson, who is also contemplating the same thing. I adored Arthur and Teddy's bond throughout the story. Both grappling with the same feelings and emotions in different life stages made this a rather emotional read. In alternating narratives, Arthur comes to terms with his past, while Teddy works to understand his future, both striving to find peace in their lives. This book's promotions emphasise the feel-good humour, which hit the feel-good spot, but I don't think the comedic aspects hit the correct mark. Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out is a very sweet, somewhat predictable but always heartwarming story with an eye-catching cover about two men; elderly gentleman Arthur and his 22 year old grandson Teddy, both of whom are gay and are finding the right moment to come out and live as their true, authentic selves.

Arthur is an absolute inspiration…

That's what I mean when I say that this book makes you feel a lot of things. It makes you think and wonder, it makes you sad, happy, maybe even angry at times, but that rollercoaster of emotions is worth it. I’m not embarrassed to admit, that Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out by Ryan Love had me in tears on more than one occasion. Don’t worry, happy tears all around. Prepare yourself for a cosy and uplifting journey of self-acceptance and a new fictional grandad you’ll fall in love with from the very first chapter… The multiple relationship threads running through the story come together beautifully at the end and the book is a joy to read from start to finish!’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Proving there’s no age limit on following your heart and finding love! I’m totally #TeamArthurandTeddy’ Heidi Swain, Sunday Times bestselling author It's a very easy read, even though there are some difficult topics. I'll mention the trigger warnings below if you want to know. I did notice that at times the story went really fast, and certain things are skipped, which I thought could have been a bit better. And other times, I had the feeling some parts could have been wrapped up a bit sooner.
