It is therefore a shock to find on meeting him again that as a widower he has grown stern and hard - and is soon to remarry, a beautiful woman who cares no more for him than he does for her. It was a good story and I really enjoyed it and I loved the heroine but it was just not outstanding for me. The demon initially sets his mind on torturing and lashing out his anger at Aella, but soon he starts falling for the half-angel. That alone would make this an interesting book, but on a deeper level the author deals with the effects dishonesty and fear can have on a relationship, the amount of trust it takes to believe someone can truly change for the better as a person, and the way God can guide our lives through circumstances we encounter.Had she known all those years that Vincent wasn’t as reserved as she thought, things would have been different. This book was delightful and I loved how Janet wove conflict into the budding relationship between Elizabeth and Ted. Two well-layered main characters are thrown into a love-hate game without their consent and need to recenter and repurpose their whole lives.
