About this deal

A brilliant read, had me gripped at all parts I felt like I was reading a true story about Susan's life parts made me laugh, cry and get angry at the injustice for her, but had the biggest grin on my face with the epilogue and the ending. Like many, many others, I have always been a huge fan of Martina Cole and I used to jump onto her new books as soon as they were released. But again, like many others, I have been left disappointed with her more recent work and I have to say that ‘Get Even’ was no exception to that.” Susan interrupted her acidly "One hundred and fifty two times with a claw hammer? Yes, I did, I counted the blows, it gave me something to focus on."

Two Women By Martina Cole |The Works

I had an idea of what I was letting myself in for reading BETRAYAL. Martina Cole has this magic of being able to create characters and families, all with their own different traits, but blend together really well.

Although I can appreciate the true nature of the plot and darker side of gang life I didn’t like the writing style. I found Coles writing extremely repetitive and predictable. Banged up in Holloway, all that keeps her sane is knowing that her children are now safe from the man who terrorised them.

I also love how most of her books are generational and you get to see multi generations of the same family and watch them grow as the decades pass. Aiden O'Hara is a Hard Man, head of his family, and in the running to take over his chosen business, which involves much illegal skulduggery. He has a large family with various brothers, all following in his footsteps, a mother who is a sort, and a holier-than-thou baby sister. Only problem is, Aiden is a psychopath with no conscience, and this is eventually his downfall.Started to read Dangerous Lady on holiday couldn’t put it down, had to finish it then bought another on my Kindle. She married for the first time aged 16, but the marriage only lasted a year. She had her first child at the age of 18. [3] Her parents both died when she was in her early 20s. [1] Martina has the skill of creating characters that drive you crazy. Love and hate are so close in emotion and I felt this a lot with Aidan. I loved the way he fought from a young age to provide for his family as essentially the man of the house, to make a name for himself and ensure that his family was taken care of. What I didn’t like were how the power slowly starts to corrupt him and with that comes unsavoury behaviour towards both his girlfriend and his family. Dowell, Ben (17 April 2008). "Sky to air Cole novel adaptations". The Guardian . Retrieved 5 November 2015. All Reeva's children work for “the firm” - it is impossible, under Aiden's rule, for any of them to work honestly. The one exception is the youngest, Agnes. She is a good girl, beautiful and bright. She is devoted to her Catholic faith, and attends Mass twice daily. When Aiden finally marries and has a son, she devotes herself to looking after him, and seems not to want a life of her own. menos mal que luego de tanto sufrimiento susan pudo tener su libertad, rodearse de sus hijos, amigos y pareja.

I had to take a break from reading it because I had heard the line ‘he doesn’t suffer fools gladly’ one too many times and it still came up multiple times when I resumed the read. finally, i’d just like to point out that the author (a white woman) used a racial slur for no visible reason, where it could be easily omitted. I loved Cole's earlier books, particularly Burrows and the whole taboo of a copper hooking up with a criminal. Now Burrows is out of the police business and Pat is mostly retired things are going well when Pat has a chap claiming to be his son. Pat is shrewd and suspicious of course but the idea of a family brings it's own happiness and problems.
